Does the Kindle 3 offer any privacy settings?

I am naturally a person who likes privacy and I was wondering if the kindle offered anything in terms of privacy with the content you have on your kindle.

The reason I ask is, say you are suffering from a disease, condition or ailment that you wish to remain private and your reading books about it. Or you just do not want funny looks over the type of literature you are in to.

Is there a way to lock your kindle? or hide your e-book collection from anyone who wants to pick up your kindle and start checking out what your reading?

You can make your Kindle require a password to be entered when it is turned on. Its in the settings menu.

You can't lock away specific collections or items whilst allowing access to the rest of the Kindle. Its all or nothing.

I may be off base here, but I wouldn't ever dream of picking up someones ebook reader and 'browsing it'.

Anymore than I would look into their computer.

well, in my current living situation with family, I am going to be the new kid on the block (probably first in my family to have an e-reader) So im expecting everyone to want to take a gander at it. I like offbeat literature and as I mentioned I like my privacy. So I am weighing my options.

And to mention that this password is too annoying and nasty. You need to enter it every time, even after return from sleep. It will be more conveniently to have a menu item "Lock it" - so you lock it only when you need.
