Google eBooks will be readable on Kindles
Google will announce this month a site to sell eBooks readable on Kindles, Nooks and Sony readers.
Here is the link: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2373654,00.asp If that happens, I just may buy my eBooks for my Kindle WiFi 3 from Google if their prices are comparable to Amazon. I have an Amazon Kindle WiFi and a Sony PRS 900. This will enable me to use either reader to read my eBooks. Here is more information on this subject: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/fas..._editions.html and here: http://books.google.com/support/part...&answer=167975 Last edited by sirmaru; 12-01-2010 at 12:03 PM. |

Interesting but not sure I want to read my books via the Kindle web browser - depends how good the overall experience is. And unless the books are cheaper than Amazon, then also not sure where my incentive would be to use the Google service when I'm very happy with the Kindle store.
It does point out that books can be downloaded for offline reading but no format is specified. Competition is healthy I guess ![]() |

there are rumors that the (big) caveat around Google editions is that the book will not be available as a file, but will only be able to be accessed via the net. Only a rumor, but I can't think of any other way that the publishers will let google sell ebooks sans DRM.

Also interesting that they can't set the price higher than any print edition. (Unless I read that wrong).
Anyway, Kindle has had a lot of competition on the technical side; hopefully this will force them to fix the real problem with the Kindle (IMHO) the horrible way they run the book store. |

The google book store is not interesting for me unless I can read the books offline. When I am in the metro or in some holiday resort without wireless internet access the google books are useless and that is where I mainly read books.
That will be the big problem for google books. P.S.: I am sure that amazon will declare the "kindle browser experiment" as failed if the google book store becomes a threat to their revenue. |
