Another pre-order...available Dec 1st. I'm trying to figure out the benefit of pre-orders for freebies.

I've heard it boosts the sales rank enough to put the book into the Paid Bestsellers list once it's no longer free, thereby giving free publicity to new releases by making them look like they're heavily wanted from the get-go.

If you wait to order it, it likely won't be free when released.

For a publisher, this boosts the first day sales, propelling it to the bestseller ranks at Amazon.

No longer free. Fairly obviously a pricing error by the publisher on an upcoming book.

Hmmm... I wonder if they will honor the $0.00 pre-orders. So far, it still shows as free in my open orders.

Same for me - still showing as $0.00. Like Karen said, if I am remotely interested in a freebie, I get it. Learned a long time ago, many of these books don't stay free for long, especially if there was a pricing error.

They've always honored the free pre-order pricing. Today, for example, my Kindle downloaded the Zombie Love Songs that was a free pre-order months ago; it then disappeared from the store completely for months, then the paper copy had it's publication date pushed back over and over. It's not free to order today, but it's on my Kindle, with no charges.
