Sony Stylus
I got a Sony PRS 950. I bought it for freehand PDF annotation. Unfortunately I found it a real pain to write using the stylus. Basically you can only use the stylus to draw lines or big (I mean "huge") characters on the screen. I am wondering whether other Sony users have the same problem and how to solve the problem. Thanks.

I played a bit with the display 950 (mine still hasn't come in from B&H) and the stylus point on the new one appears to be more blunt than the stylus that came with the 900. I'd suggest getting your hands on a PDA stylus with a more tapered point and see how that works out.
I didn't test out annotation, but the 900 wasn't so great for writing either, but that might have also been because of the added touch layer. At home I have this stylus/pen combo that I used for my 900 before I sold it and will probably use it for the 950 when it arrives: http://www.stylisource.com/detail.asp?product_ID=t1041. That site has other types as well. |

You are quite correct on the huge characters. I myself am having trouble creating characters smaller than one square centimetre. Unfortunately, the touchscreen technology that makes the device more usable with a finger, inherently makes using a stylus cumbersome. A resistive touchscreen is usually better in this regard despite washing out the output from the display situated underneath it.
Finding a solution to this problem won't be simple though due to the touchscreen technology in use on the PRS-X50 models I'm afraid. |

Long ago in the age of PDAs well before the era of smartphones, I bought a stylus that is built into a writing pen. It is the size of a typical writing pen and can be used as a stylus, mechanical pencil, black ink pen, or highlighter. It has a pocket clip, as do many good writing pens, so it stays in a shirt pocket. I long since forget the manufacturer or the location where I bought it, but I'm sure you can find a third-party stylus that fits your needs. Mine is fat like a writing pen which makes it easier for me to hold and use. My hands are too big to easily use the included skinny stylus.

Hello, thank you all for the help.
So it seems that replacing the stylus should solve the problem. I will go ahead to buy a new stylus to try it out. |
