I think the Nook Color is about to get rooted!

pokey9000 on the XDA Developers board found out that the boot order on the NC is USB-MicroSD-Internal Flash. Which he says means that not only can it be easily rooted with the correct software loader, it is in fact unbrickable!

No if that isn't good news... Oh, by the way this is hardwired into the unit and can not be changed by a Barnes and Noble firmware update. So I would guess that this will be done before I get the one I ordered for my son (probably late this coming week). Angry Birds, anyone?http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...5&postcount=21 |

![]() Now, I wonder how they are going to handle the lack of buttons? Hopefully a soft button option will be found. |

There's the n home screen button. Other people have talked about using the volume buttons for the other two keys and forgetting the Google search button entirely.

with a pdf open you'll see the back and menu buttons to the right of the read it now button. if you leave the pdf as your last read book when you press the read it now button in other programs, instead of opening the pdf again it just pops up the back and menu buttons. the is great for web browsing since you don't have to scroll all the way to the top to access the back, forward, refresh, etc. buttons. |

I have read about another rooted Android tablet where they use an overlay instead of hard buttons. Probably one solution. Anyway who needs a search button?

these are the buttons using the browser, they only show up when having a pdf as your last read book.

Took a few days, but it seems like it's on now. A photography of a NC running Angry Birds is up on the XDA Developer's page, and it looks real, and it's a reputable source (unlike one bozo that had everybody running in circles for a day or so with a hoax hack). Within a day or two the full root should be there. Just like my son's NC, if he ever gets it... Maybe I'll keep it now!
