Amazon's Lighted Cover
I got one together with my K3. However, lately I discovered that if I'm on my right side in bed the lower hook doesn't hold the Kindle in position, it will slide enough that it will loose contact and the light shuts off. It is easy enough to push it back in, but I'm curious to know if anyone else has this problem?
Can I twist the hook so it will keep the Kindle more snugly? Or should I have it returned? |

I'd live dangerously and try to twist the hook -- very gently and only a little -- to see if that works.
I haven't had any issues with my K3 or the lighted case ... but then I don't actually use the light much. At home I always have good lighting; I expect to use it more on holiday. |

Your Kindle shouldn't really move when fitted properly in the lighted case so perhaps it is faulty? Are you sure the bottom hinge has been slid all the way in before you push the top hinge in? You should only be able to see the black part of the hinge when in position and not any gold metal.

It should not "release" that way. It sounds defective.
If you look at photos of the system, the bottom hook curves downward (like a comma ",") and the k3 needs to be hooked in at an angle and then rotated right-to-left upward toward the spring hook. Mine does not move at all at the lower hook. There's a fraction of play at the top hook. |

There definitely should be no gold metal visible once your Kindle is hooked up so perhaps it is faulty if you cannot slide the bottom hinge in any further. That would explain why it is moving around when it should be stable.

sound like the top hinge slider is in the down position. Remember the top hinge is a lock/unlock system. the hinge should have automatically slid into the lock position but may not have for one reason or another

It took me a few tries to figure out how to attach the Kindle to the cover. At first mine had metal showing and it seem that it wouldn't go any further. I was scared of damaging the Kindle but a firm push on the bottom hinge before attaching the top hinge and it finally snap into place. One thing that clue me off was the instruction kept saying no metal should be showing if done correctly.
They really need better instructions on the cover for clueless people like me. lol |

This is what my connector looked like. As you can see the lower connector's attachment is not perpendicular to the back frame of the cover. I nudged it back using a wrench and now hopes it will stay there.
Hmm, thought I could upload photos here, hmm. ![]() PS: Thank you Tiersten, didn't realize I had to move to the advanced options. Last edited by Kumabjorn; 11-21-2010 at 07:26 AM. Reason: Pics added |

Are any of you using the smak-dab to secure your K3 in the lighted Kindle case? I hear that trying to open it from the back can cause the K3 case to crack.

Securing Amazon Case and Smak-dab comment
The Kindle 3 lower opening must be hooked into and firmly seated into the case's lower hook. It requires a bit of a push to go in all the way. Then, the upper opening is placed over the upper hook and pushed in. The upper hook is spring loaded and locks into place.
I have used the smak-dabs on all three Kindles I've bought as they do offer a level of security at a small price. I feel not only is the Kindle fastened more securely in place, but there is no chance of opening the case from the back thus potentially bending the hooks. Hope this helps, Ken |

Thanks for your feedback Ken.
Since posting the question above, I've read that there were changes made to the K3 to prevent the type of cracks that developed on the K2. Anyone know if that's true? |

Well, I just made a rustic smak-dab. Patent UNbending.
I used one of those black spring clips with the wire "handles." Aha.... http://lh4.googleusercontent.com/pub...9cpNIkKEWCs9ow I used the one about 1 inch in length and unsprung it a bit so that it would not have a death-like grip on my K3 and cover. I think it may need some duct (duck) tape to cover the curved metal after I removed the handles. The sharp curved metal is away from the k3. Every office has them. But is makes pulling out the light extension a bit harder. Last edited by FF2; 11-27-2010 at 04:50 PM. |
