It is a *40* year old book for Pete's sake! Why wouldn't I compare it to used??? USED and the Public Library are the principal competitors. In 10 years it is in the Public Domain in both Australia and Canada.

And if I buy it used, read it, lend it to friends and family - it STILL has residual value.

I don't think that the prices of ebooks should be compared to the prices of used books. And just because it will be part of the public domain doesn't mean that somebody will give it for free today. It is their last chance to make a real profit on the book.

On the other hand, the complete works of William Shakespeare are sold as Kindle books for $5.05 when they *are* part of the public domain, and you can get the used paperback from $2.38, and the used hardcover from $0.41.
