Did you give any thought to the lighted Kindle case? I absolutely love mine. It's the best reading light I've found ....and no searching all over the house for batteries!

cheers

I agree.

TS the kindle cover from amazon with light is excellent.
It is totally worth the price: no batteries needed and an excellent bright LED.

It also drains the battery of the K3 since it uses the K3's battery to power the light.

It is not as bad in usage as "draining" would imply to me
It is more like it is using the k3's power than draining the battery
Yes, you trade in power for convenience but it is worth it to me.
I love that LED light. It is perfect.

I am using the Belkin ebook light with my kindle 3. I have it in a leather cover, folded back, and the light slips over the two edges of the cover. I have a kandle also but haven't tried it yet (it'll be going in my stocking for c'mas). I love the Belkin light!!!

Yes, draining is the correct word. I have the light cover from Sony and it is not heavy and uses one AAA battery. It does not drain the 650's battery. I would not want nay light I use to get power from the reader's battery. That's just a bad design (IMHO).

Clearly, there are differences of opinion on whether the lighted case is good or bad.

Completely depends on your wants or needs.

I like the idea that my case has an integrated light and is not yet another device that needs charging or batteries. It is also not a device that I might mislay and not find when I want it. Since I've read estimates that the k3 with the lighted cover will last about 20 hours of reading, I think that is sufficient. Is it the perfect solution - not for everyone. And the light does tend to fade off in the lower left but it is working for me.

I bought the lighted case but I am disappointed in the light. It doesn't seem to light evenly like my Mighty Bright Travel Flex does. However it is perfect for reading in bed next to someone as it won't blind the person next to you so less grumbles and more enjoy reading time! The Case itself is really nice, good quality and well worth the price. The light is a bonus for me.

If you want a light you can attach to the case. I highly recommend the Mighty Bright Travel Flex which runs on 1 AAA battery. I paid $12 for it at my local B&N. One battery last for me a very long time before I switch it out. It has perfect even lighting with no glare at all. It's very light weight unlike it's big brother Mighty Bright Xtra Flex 2 which I also have and use as a night light and Computer repair light as it's way too bright for reading! The Travel Flex also has a long bendy neck so you can adjust the light's position.

I have to disagree about the lighted cover creating battery life problems.

I read 2+ hours a night using the lighted cover. I get over 28 hours on a charge with my Kindle 3. Having to charge my Kindle every two weeks has not been a problem and well worth it for the built in light.

I use the light pretty often and I haven't found it has caused battery life to plummet. I can read for several nights in a row with it. I end up plugging in because I think I should. I haven't actually had a low battery situation with it. Maybe I should see how long it takes. If I thought I'd be going for an extended time between access to outlets, I might think differently. I suppose most book lights are not quite $25 (the difference in prices between the two cases), but I like the convenience of the integration so I was willing to fork over a little premium.

That said, Mighty Bright is what I used before and it worked great. Easy on the batteries. Bright light. Not too heavy. I haven't tried it with the new case style but it seems it would do alright. I had no problem using it with my old stock K1 case or the M-Edge case.

Hi Blossom,
can you please tell me if the Mighty bright TravelFlex works fine on a 'naked' Kindle3?

You'll need a case to use the Travel Flex with the Kindle.
I clip mine on the middle of the case where the folding crease is.
