Do Gift Certificates overwrite the 1-Click?
I've received a refund from Amazon in the form of a £20 gift certificate because the price of my extended warranty for the Kindle 3 dropped by approximately the same amount.
I have gone through and applied it to my account. If I press 1-click for a book I'd like, will it take the amount off the certificate balance by default, rather than the card I have set up? Sorry if this is a stupid question but b*ggered if I can find an explanation on the Amazon website and I know somewhere here will know! |

It should take it fromthe gift certificate balance first. It always does when I have gift certificate balances which is most of the time.
Maybe check with a small item first. I was surprised that items from 3rd party sellers on Amazon also come off your gift certificate balance - although you can opt to pay by card instead. |

Thanks KindleWorm, I've tried buying a couple of Kindle books and crossed my fingers! I did rather bash the 1-click card last month

I wondered the same thing but hit 1-click and it did indeed give me credit for my gift certificate.

Yup, when you add a credit to your account (whether as a gift cert, or refund) that's always used as your first source of funds. If you 'overspend' it takes the remaining balance from your normal card payment source.

Keep in mind that *anything* you buy from Amazon will come out that GC not just Kindle books. So, if you want to use a GC for Kindle books make sure you buy them before purchasing anything else from Amazon.

Did I read that after you apply a gift certificate, you can turn off the credit card option, thereby limiting your purchases to a set amount for a while? If so, how does one turn off the CC? I am not that familiar with all of Amazon's payment practices.
Thanks. |
