Email to my Kindle
I bought a book from Baen's WebSubscription, and noticed it had an option to "e-mail to my Kindle". I am still trying out various reader apps and downloaded the .mobi to be read from my desktop computer's Kindle application - but it didn't show up on my iPad, so I wondered if that was necessary to see it both places (A book I bought from Amazon showed up automatically).
Apparently Amazon charges (see below). What do I get from this? Can I move any book so that any Kindle device/program sees it? Amazon will charge you $.15 per MB sent by email to your Kindle. Before you can email items to your Kindle you must authorize access by WebScription.net. Login in to your Amazon Kindle account at Amazon Kindle Manager and in the "Your Kindle approved e-mail list" add the address @webscription.net You only need to do this once. Then enter the address for your Kindle device here and click "Send" |

I believe the Kindle app on the iPad only supports viewing of Kindle books purchased from Amazon's Kindle store. There are work-arounds to get other files into the app, but I don't think there is any support for the "e-mail to Kindle" functionality which, as I understood it, was meant primarily to get content into an actual Kindle.
You are probably better of seeing if another e-reader app is capable of displaying your Baen's book on the iPad. If you really want to have it accessible in the Kindle app, it may be possible, but almost certainly not as easily as using the "e-mail to Kindle" method. |

I can download Baen books with a variety of different formats. Right now I am trying out the same book with different readers trying to figure out my preferences.
I am guessing that buying it via Kindle is useful if we want to be able to read the same book with different devices. Read a chapter outside on the Kindle device, then go upstairs, and continue on the same page on the iPad Kindle app. |

If you jailbreak your iPad, you can drag your mobi books from notebook into the Kindle App internal folder directly.
