Hide IP Address for UK ebook purchases

Hi Guys!

I use AlwaysVPN for US ebook purchases. However, I would also like to purchase from the UK sites. Does anyone know a good UK hide IP service provider? I live in Malaysia, thus not able to purchase from both US and UK the normal way.

hidemyass.com has a "pay VPN" service which allows you to choose your apparent location. This includes options for the UK.

SecurityKiss is a free UK VPN.

When I bought e-books from WH Smith recently I did not need a UK VPN. Just registering my account with an UK address, and using that address as billing address for my creditcard, was enough to buy books.

I used it to create gmail when only googlemail was available

Although I used its free feature.

Thanks Astra. Will try Hidemyass.com. A lot of the books I like reading are not available in the US ebook stores since they are from British/Irish writers.

I'm no specialist in this issue but I've had the same problem when trying to purchase from big US or UK sites, it said in small "US and Canada only" or "UK and Ireland only".
From what I've heard, when you pay with a credit card they see it's not from those countries and thus will not allow the purchase. So I don't see how producing a fake IP will help.

Many people buy Gift Cards to the various vendors and then use a VPN IP address log-in and Gift Card payment to buy the eBooks.

That's why you hear so much grumbling about these geographic restrictions - all that work to earn the privilege to buy the book and then you're probably still committing fraud or something.

Because you bought a book with money instead of stealing it.

Most e-book stores for some reason do not verify the billing address with the credit card company (cheaper transactions?).
So you can use any valid US (or Uk) address as credit card billing address instead of the real billing address.

I don't understand. Say I live in Belgium (I do), I got a Belgian credit card. I wish to purchase book X on, say the Sony US e-store. I enter my card details and in the field "billing address" I enter some made up US address ?
Like "223, 5th avenue, Manhattan, New-york ?

I don't know if this will work at the Sony e-store (it works at some stores), but I suggest you use Google maps to find a plausible US address and choose a state with no sales tax (wiki: Sales taxes in the United States).

This sounds like trouble. I don't know the US, never been there either so using a fake address as an anonymous person maybe but using a fake address when at the same time they got very personal info from my credit card. I rather not.
Guess Torrent is my best friend for the time being.

I wouldn't trust these IP hiding services for important things like financial transactions.

All the data's travelling through their connection so who knows what they might be logging ! they might even feed you a fake website designed to log your card details very risky !

When I buy ebooks from the US sites like BooksOnBoard, Kobo and Sony I registered using a US address as well as using that for my billing address (I stayed in a hotel in NYC for 1.5 month last year, thus used that address) then upon purchasing I will use AlwaysVPN to hide my M'sian IP address. So far no issue. They are very generous by giving me very high free credit to test if it works.
