Calibre performance on Mac really bad

Does anyone find that conversions take a long time in the Mac version?

Ok my macbook isn't the newest, but its still a C2D processor and I wouldn't expect converting an ebook to be intensive stuff. I just get the washing machine icon for quite a long time, maybe 5-10 mins for a 300page ebook. My PC can do the same thing in about 10 seconds.

I've had some ebooks take up to 6 hours.

Have you tried the exact same ebook conversion on both systems?

My guess, it is the ebook causing the delay not the system.
