How do you hold a Kindle?

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...uL._SL135_.jpg

This is how Amazon shows one being held, but I can't really see how that would work unless you had really sticky hands. A more obvious way of holding it would be with your thumb over the front bottom of it and a few finges behind it, but there is a keyboard there and you would probably keep pressing buttons by mistake. So they only way I can see how you would hold one would be with both hands or with your hand spread out behind it. I'm thinking more about holding it while lying down than sat up.

I hold it pretty much like the picture except the corner of it is in the frog of my hand and I use my thumb for the page turns. works equally well with either hand and is perfect for reading in bed. one hand is kept free for kitty pets, being under the covers, holding a glass... what ever!

I think it's the "web" between your thumb and forefinger --- like the "web" between a frog's toes.

For lying down it's a little trickier to keep it balanced. I usually form an "L" with my thumb and forefinger, with the thumb over the keyboard and the finger stretching up to the page turn buttons. The corner of the kindle then sits in my palm and the other fingers clamp on to the back of the device.

Pressing keyboard keys accidentally has not been an issue for me - they require a lot more pressure than the light grip I hold the kindle with.

Living on the Olympic Peninsula I would expect you to have webbed hands and feet unless you live in the Sequim Rain Shadow. But I never heard that term either. Shall we drive the censors crazy and mention Pysht, Wa?

I think she means this http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-ma...-hands-322235/ or this http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-3255...uman-hand.html (Sorry, kindlekitten...)

Perhaps she is talking about the wedge of the palm - the hand curled around so the Kindle is cradled by the palm. It is sort of makes the same shape as the frog of a horse's hoof. I think she will have to explain - I'm just an ignorant American.....

I never really tried to hold the "naked" Kindle in one hand, to be honest. I have an Oberon cover for my Kindle, so usually hold it with the cover folded back and my left fingers tucked into the front flap of the cover and my thumb on the left hand forward page button. This way, the Kindle can't slip out of my hand and fall and it is easy to use the page buttons.

I read one-handed (right): fold my Oberoncover (red wild roses) double, forefinger through the elastic, Kindle rests in my hand, thumb free for page-turn.
Works also hanging on one arm in a subway or any other vehicle.

How are the covers held on, magnets on the Kindle or something like that?

No - 3 leather loops and one elastic/bungee loop to hold the Kindle to the back cover at each corner of the device. Here's a video about the Kindle 2 cover, which is exactly the same as the Kindle 3 cover only slightly bigger: http://www.oberondesign.com/k2vid01.php

I do indeed mean the webbing between the thumb and forefinger. wonder where I ever got the "frog" bit from??? hmmmmm

anyway, in bed I read naked. I also have an Oberon, but that only works for left handed reading!

I hold the naked Kindle with my thumb on the keyboard and haven't accidentally pressed any buttons. They're pretty stiff. Otherwise, I use the case.

I do prefer the Kobo for holding, though, because it has that large "empty" space with no keyboard.

I spent a year and a half at Ft. Lewis, so I know what you're talking about! Being from sunny Florida, I didn't care much for WA except those two months of summer when it actually dries up and the sun makes an appearance!
