Pearl Display Worth Upgrading To?

I have a Sony PRS-505 and I have to say I have little complaints with it. But, I am considering getting a Kindle 3 for a couple of reasons. Number one would be the pearl display. Another reason is that I'm hoping the processor will be faster. The Sony can be slow at times.

So, my question is whether these two factors (mostly the display) make it worth upgrading to if money was no factor. (of course, it always is). I plan to ebay the Sony if I make the jump.

I suppose one thing you would need to consider would be the compatibility of your existing e-books with the Kindle. Unless they are all pdf's, they won't be compatible. Don't know if that bothers you at all, but it could be important. If it does, that would bring the Sony 350 or 650 into the equation?

All my books are epubs without DRM. They should be easily convertible to mobi.

I am considering the Sony PRS-650 but, at $229 and lacking wifi, it doesn't seem to make sense upgrading to.

You can get a free light cover if you buy a 650 from Borders. That will cut the price a bit overall. The cover is very nice. The 650 is very snappy and the touch screen is really nice. Plus the light cover does not take power from the 650. The light cover from Amazon takes power from the K3.

Well, it does meet both of your stated requirements; Pearl screen and faster processer.

Of course though, if you don't mind the converting, so does the Kindle and at a significantly cheaper price and with the addition of the wifi.

Yes, I've seen that thread. But, buying at Borders means another $19 in taxes. Buying from Amazon is tax free. Add that to the extra $90 that the Sony costs makes it seem like not such a good deal. For the extra $99 I could get a very nice light/cover for the Kindle.

Okay, I just ordered the Sony PRS-650.

I got it from ABT Electronics. No tax and no shipping fee. Unfortunately, it says it is backordered. I'll be patient.

edbro--

Congrats on your new 650! Hope you get it soon!! I upgraded from a 505 to a 650 (with a short stop with nook inbetween.) Gotta say, I love the 650!! As Geppetto said--the touchscreen is amazing!! I find the quality of the 650 display just a little better than the 505--but the fact that it'll display ePubs fully justified without the annoying page # in the right margin also makes a big positive difference.
