2 annoying problems I would like to see removed

Hello,
I have just downloaded an huge italian classics book library. There are over 6000 PDF.
Now I want to add them to my calibre collection but there are 2 problems that do not let me accomplish this task in an easy way:

1) If calibre crashes I am not able to restart the task from the last position before the crash. Duplicate mechanism does not help as there are many "unknown" ebooks.

2) If PDF library crashes I have a lot of "Unknown" books added after the crash and there is no way to solve this problem.

Please, I think these problems are really common to a lot of people. Could you create workarounds for them ?

Thank you in advance

Try importing your books using the filename to populate the author/title information instead of using the pdf metadata. It's most likely the metadata causing both your problems with crashing and the fact that everything comes through as unknown. Most people don't bother with metadata on large imports because it's extremely unreliable, as you've just discovered.

As ldolse said, use the read metadata from filename setting. And to be safe go to peferences->plugins->metadata reader plugins and disable the PDF metadata reader.
