For Chess fans everywhere - Capablanca's Chess Fundamentals
For chess fans - Capablanca's Chess Fundamentals is now available at Project Gutenberg (With illustrations). This is an intro book, not an advanced strategy book.
Capablanca was considered by many to be the greatest chess grandmaster of all times. Link - http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/33870 |

I love chess and i learned a lot with that book.
Do you know he suggested the inclusion of two additional types of pieces in the game because he thought the tactical possibilities would ran out in a few years and all the games between masters would end in draws after him? He suggested a chancellor that moves as both a rook and a knight and a Archbishop that moves as both a bishop and a knight. He tried a version in a 10x10 board and a 10x8. Just imagine how much more complex would chess be now if that change had succeeded. 8 straight years without a single defeat...he was awesome !! |

That's the profession level. Rather than getting a random deal, every deal is pre-planned. Everybody ends up playing the same cards over the course of the Tournament. The team who plays them best (i.e. scores the most points) wins...

Capablanca supposedly never studied chess openings (the first phase of a game). When he defeated the US player Frank Marshall, Marshall went away and prepared an opening novelty which he kept secret, waiting to unleash it against Capablanca and secure his revenge.
Nine years later he finally got his chance; only to be defeated once again when Capa found his way through the complications over the board. ![]() |

I'll definitely be downloading this in epub for my ipad. I checked Amazon and they wanted 4.99 for the ebook?? I sent their customer service a note saying this was now free at Project Gutenberg.
I currently play chess frequently on my ipad with shredder chess. I will be nice to see his guide. |

Duplicate bridge is the only interesting form of the game (IMHO), in that it's the only variant in which you can competitively rate yourself against other players. I'm a member of a bridge club; we only play duplicate.
