Avoiding auto updates?

Bar switching off net access is there a (hopefully simple) way to avoid the Kindle auto-updating while retaining net access?

Yeah, that would a good thing. Otherwise, Amazon can always post new updates that break jailbreak and other hacks, and it could be at a very inconvenient moment (like, traveling, etc).

You might try to do manually what the since-disabled private command `7777 did on the K1 (ie. mangle the OTA version number in order to disable OTA updates). Check igorsk's blog for details.

But I have no idea if:

* That will work on modern devices.
* What averse side-effects it could have.

I guess that editing the hosts file so that all Amazon servers point to 127.0.0.1 would probably work too.

Does anyone know which server(s)/URLs the Kindle connects to for its updates?
