Santa has promised me an ereader for Christmas, so I am doing the legwork to decide which I would like. I am leaning toward the Kindle 3. I will be reading for pleasure only, no academc papers etc and I don't plan on spending a lot of money "buying" books. Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated!

Jude, I suggest that you give consideration to the jetBook Lite which is available from newegg.ca and the Aluratek Libre which is available in Canada at Costco.

I'm very pleased with my JBL, and the price is quite low.

Good to have your company, Jude. Kobo -- because of its Canadian connection -- might well be a good choice for you. Don't be misled by the ready-loaded free books; these are classics and other Public Domain works you can pick up free all over the net. And they'll often be badly formatted, unlike those offered free by members in the MR library. Another red herring is store-linked library software. Just download Calibre and you have something better that anything else around. Good luck and best wishes. Neil

I started researching ereaders a few weeks ago and was directed time and again back to this site. I followed many threads and can honestly say I learned most of what I think I need to know right here. Today I am going out to look at some ereaders (I have only seen them from afar, never actually touched one!). I have 2 questions: are the ebooks listed on this site free? Will they work on a Kindle?
