Is my Nook bad?
Two questions...
I have to push my power button twice to wake the Nook up from sleep mode. Is this correct, or should it only take on push? Also, if I want to use the touch screen while reading, it takes a few good thumps to wake it up...not the tap that the manual says. Again, is this normal? Thanks! |

The power button needs to be held for about a second. A quick tap on it isn't enough.
There's no reason to "thump" the touch screen, ever. It's not pressure sensitive; it detects skin contact and motion. A light touch works better than a heavy one. Be patient; the NOOK is not a quad-core system. The touch screen also tries to ignore very brief touches in many cases, to eliminate problems caused by accidentally brushing the screen. To light up the lower screen, either touch it and hold the touch for about a half-second, or else do a double-tap on the "n". You can also press the power button for a second or so. |

I just had my finger resting on the touch screen for the last ten seconds and nothing happened. In fact, touching the screen repeatedly does nothing. Touching the "n" works fine.
Maybe THAT bit of info should be in the manual... |

It is in the manual, VACaver. After a period of time the touch screen goes into page-turning mode, so you can swipe it to...turn pages, instead of seeing the menu.
To get back to the menu, you have to tap the 'n' I'd never used a touch screen, it took me a while to get the mechanics down. (I'm not saying there's nothing wrong with your nook - my first one was defective, but the replacement works like a charm!) Last edited by mopping five; 10-23-2010 at 01:58 PM. |

That nook is a fickle beast.
I never quite got the hang of the "page swipe" writing it off as not so functional function. And then my dear sweet wife comes along and does the swipe with ease. Turns the page for her every time. It appears the fault is mine for whatever reason, but I still just don't have the knack for it. |
