Peculiar instances of georestrictions
Have you run across any instances of georestrictions that just don't make sense that you might wish to share?
I'll start things off: Sarah Waters' Fingersmith is apparently only available in the US.
(Correct me if I'm wrong. - It seems peculiar that a English writer can only get ebooks published georestricted to the United States!)

There was another one like that advertised in the deals section a few weeks ago, 61 Nails. Story set in London but people in the UK are not allowed to read it. I don't know where the writer is from.

Fingersmith is published in the UK by Virago Press. They're a small imprint of Little, Brown & Co. which is owned by French company Hachette Livre. Perhaps an email to Virago will help you?

In the US the book is published by Riverhead an imprint of Penguin, a British company.

Two European companies involved but they left out their home base ebook markets.

They make sense (in terms of the mechanics of publishing), you do not just understand them.

It is totally meaningless where the author lives. What is important is what the company decides which has the rights for the authors book in a particular region.

I.e. the company which has the rights to sell an english authors book in the US can decide to make an ebook version. The company which has the rights for the UK can decide not to.

In short - the geographical location of the author does not make it in any way more likely that there will be an ebook of his available there.

Just because something makes sense in a particular context doesn't mean it isn't peculiar...
Wiktionary definition of peculiar:
Out of the ordinary; odd; curious; unusual; Common or usual for a certain place or circumstance; specific or particular

I understand them just fine.

When a local author is restricted by restrictive, anachronistic distribution practices from selling his product to his fellow countrymen, then I cannot understand that.

Bloody ridiculous.
