Kindle 3 number-key overlay?

Hi,

Has anyone found a smart solution to add a number overlay to make it easier to locate the numbers on the keyboard.
I guess I could just make something, print it and use tape, but there has to be a better way.
Any suggestions?

No, you can also press Alt + "letter in the top row" to get the numbers.

I've used the "numbers" so often, that I now associate the letters with them

It took my awhile but I was able to just memorize which were which. I found playing a few rounds of online sudoku really helped, I posted a thread on how to get the kindle to work on the websudoku site here if you're interested.

I also found associating the numbers and letters with some type of phrase helped, for example the number 7 is alt+U so "7 Up".

I really don't see why amazon didn't just do this for us since there already is silkscreened print on the device.

I have access to a laser cutter, and I am VERY tempted to etch numbers just above the top row of keys... But it probably isn't a good idea.

Probably fairy_dreams and jphphotography have the easiest solution - just memorize what letter is associated with what number, but a nicely designed overlay would be nice.

I don't have my Kindle yet - is there room above the top line of letters to put some sort of ...very small...line of numbers to identify the associated letter?

Excuse my ignorance, but why is using a laser cutter to etch the numbers a bad idea? Would this damage the eReader? I know if I was the one doing the etching I could make a pretty big mess of it, but if someone with skill and a steady hand did the etching, why not?

Yeah, there is room.

I'm surprised a third party hasn't made a little sticker that could fit there.

Though then again, I've never really understood this problem in the first place, there's only ten buttons so it's not like you have to even count.

What about those "rub on" letters that the crafters use, you know like for scrap booking? Chances are if you picked up a sheet they'd already be layed out in order, you could just cut out a strip and rub them on. Something like this only with smaller letters.

Kindle 3 Number Label

Folks,

There is now a Kindle 3 number label that you can apply over the top row of your keypad that lets you easily identify which keys map to which numbers when using the Alt-+ shortcuts. There are labels for both graphite and white kindles. You can see one at:

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't the numbers go in order from 1-9;0 starting with the letter Q?
