Hi all,
About a year ago I bought the "100 Classic Book Collection" for the Nintendo DS. I didn't expect much from it, I just thought it might be a good way to pass the hours on long flights. But to my great surprise I actually enjoyed the DS reading experience almost as much as I enjoyed a physical, bound book. Since then I began to seriously investigate e-ink ereaders. The choice is very limited in Australia and I wasn't willing to spend money on something I couldn't try out first, but with the introduction of the Kobo and the Sony PRS-650 I was fianlly able to play with these devices. So I bought one of each! A Kobo for my wife and the PRS-650 for me. Both of us agree that it is actually a more pleasant reading experience than a paper book. Perhaps its because the font size can be adjsute to the most comfortable size. Whatever the reason may be, I'm hooked! It was a big psychological hurdle for me to buy my first "intangible" book (Terry Pratchett, "I shall wear midnight") but from now on I will be buying ebooks over pbooks whenever possible. Thanks very much to all the mobileread forum members. Your shared wisdom was most helpful to me! https://www2.mobileread.com/i/smiliestext/thankyou.gif |

Good to have your company, Perilous. Did you not think of trying the new, Australia-launched Kogan? Just bought one for one of my Australian authors and she's delighted with it. Best wishes. Neil

Yes, I also live in Australia and have been waiting for what seemed like ages to get my hands on an ereader. I have always been an avid reader and have shelves of very geeky books (philosophy, ancient Greek & Latin and other gripping must-reads!). The Kobo really makes life much easier as I can take a whole library with me where ever I go. Perhaps we can also claim back some living space and get rid of some less loved paper books!

I did consider the Kogan, it sounds like a great device. But I really wanted to try an e-reader in store before I purchased one. I think you can only buy the Kogan online? Both the Sony and the Kobo experiences have been very positive though. Now that I know how good e-ink is I'd probably be less cautious next time.
