Question More than one e-reader?

Hi there,

I'm new to this site and really new to e-readers. I just purchased a Kobo yesterday and have my sights on ordering a Kindle 3 sometime next month and now the Viewsonic VEB620 has caught my eye.

Do you have more than one ereader and if so, do you have them stashed in different parts of the house so you can always read or do you have specific uses for each one. I guess I'm trying to justifying having more than one lol

TIA

At one time I had a Kindle 2, Kindle DX, Sony PRS 600/300/550... Sold some, used many, and settled on the Kindle... I found it a little annoying trying to read on one reader and then picking up on the other so I found the Kindle and their ability to maintain a book syncd useful.

More than one

Hi

I need to justify to myself, why I have more than one reader, maybe to my wife, but not beyond that.

I have more than one, because I got curious. Maybe some of the others out there were better?

I just got my Kindle 3, but I'm hanging onto my prs-300 (for now) because I have a bunch of epubs in my TBR pile and don't want to go to the trouble of converting them all for reading on the Kindle. Plus, with the Sony there is the option of borrowing ebooks from the library. I haven't borrowed from the library yet, but I like that my Sony reader has that option without needing to jump thru loops to get the ebooks onto the reader.

I originally bought an Astak Mentor. It didn't do a great job of displying image type PDFs so I tried the JetBook Lite. It worked great for the jobalthough I didn't like the screen as well as the Mentor. Then the Mentor died. I was using the JBL so much, I haven't bothered to deal with getting the Mentor fixed yet even though it is still under warranty.

I also use my 32" TV screen patched into my computer as a large e-book reader at home.

I have a Kindle 3 that I now use.

My Kindle 2 (International) will be for insurance in case the Kindle 3 dies, and I'll also use it to store only my Fictionwise titles on.

My PocketBook 360 is NEW and is an incredibly versatile Reader. I use it exclusively for non-DRM titles, in NUMEROUS formats. It now replaces my Astak Pocket Pro, which now seems old-fashioned and clunky (to me), and looks kinda like Gramma's wrinkled face. The PocketBook 360 is a GREAT ebook Reader - very small and very comfortable and as attractive Grampa's spanking brand-new fedora.

My Sony 505 is Reader I use for DRM'd epub and for any LRF files.

My jetBook will go on the market, but a slight mishap on a recent visit to the U.S. put a mark on the screen, so I left it in the U.S.

I'd sell the Pocket Pro, but it's with me here in Peru.

My Sony 600 will go on the Market.

My OTHER Kindle 2 (US only) I just gave to my sister, along with an Oberon cover.

I have 3 RCA Rocket Books back in U.S. with 3 or 4 memory cards, a card reader, charger, cover, and Blackmask discs in PDF and RB formats. Only one of them works. The other two would be for parts. I'd sell these if someone was interested, but I don't think anyone would want such old technology.

I couldn't either. I had to go back and see where I had posted in the last couple of days, because I knew I answered this somewhere! Here's one thread that discusses it:

I used to but sold my one remaining extra. Usually when I buy a new one, it is to replace one that is no longer meeting my needs. I bought the Sony to replace the eBookwise, which I sold. I bought the Kindle because I wanted TTS and dictionaries, and sold the Sony. I did have a spare impulse buy Libre at one point, but have sold that too. I also had a Kobo for awhile, but it was always intended for my mother and when she retired, I gave it to her.

I do have an Ipad---I did not buy it for use as an ebook reader, but it does have that function. I keep all my magazines on it and sometimes read those over lunch breaks at work.

I can deliver 19 excuses.
First, I bought some readers in reference to the respective file formats:
Kindle because of the Amazon bookstore. later on nook, because I could exchange the AT&T SIM and replace by my German one.
The iRex 800, to have additional use for the B&N PDB files. And so on....

In addition, I bought different readers for specific occasions:
PocketBook 360, to take it with me to the beach or pool while on vacation. It perfectly can be put in a bag and you can turn pages without pressing buttons, just via G-sensor and moving your wrist.
iRex 1000S because of the huge screen, perfect fit for PDFs in their "original" size (usually A4). And so on...

Basically, I just enjoy the first few days or even week(s) with a new gadget...

For ePaper readers, I guess I'm through. But now there are so many new Android tablets to check out and experiment with...

My ereader of choice is the Pocketbook 360, I carry it around everywhere as it's the most pocketable of the three.
My second choice would be my Kobo - it only supports epub files and it's a tad large, so I use it when reading in the comfort of my home.
Finally, my trusty old Rocket eBook is resting in a drawer. I can't convince myself to part with it, I have so many wonderful memories...

Having the PRS-505 'cause of the good screen
and the PRS-900 because it's bigger screen and touchscreen.

I will upgrade to PRS-650/950 and one bigger 9" ereader (PocketBook 90x, MReader or DR-900/950).

We each (the missus and I) each own a last-gen CoolER (Brit reader) and now a Nook. However your question/post is interesting not just because of the face-value question but also there are book readers (Nook, Kindle, et al) and then there are multipurpose devices (cell phones, PDAs, etc) that do other things but *also* function as book readers, then there are very general purpose machines like laptops, netbooks, etc that *also* work reasonably well as ebook readers. I wrote a short post on this in the Android section (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=99153), not really stating anything other than if every device can do everything, what should a developer like myself and others set as a target platform?
