Cracking occuring in "hinge" cases???

Hey y'all!

I'm getting a K3...upgrading from my old K1. It's definitely worth it and I know I'll be happy with the K3.

However, I'm looking for a good, sleek case. I picked up the standard Amazon hinge case because I like the looks of that. My K3 should be here soon.

I've been reading some on Amazon about "cracking" problems in hinge cases, and that somehow having the hinges on the Kindle can cause "cracking" in the side of the Kindle, causing damage.

Is this true? I've read lots of conflicting evidence and I'm confused.

Btw, the Kindle 2 also has "hinge" cases so if you have experience with the K2 and hinge cases, feel free to chime in!

Thanks!!

The problem occurred if you tried to open the case from the back or backwards. I haven't heard about it on any of the K3s and not really even since they changed the case on the K2s. With the new case it is very easy to tell which is the front because of the elastic strap and leather tab, so it should be easy to prevent any problems.

BTW, I had an older K2 and case and never had any problems with it. Once or twice I picked it up upside down and tried to open the back, but noticed right away that it didn't open easily and stopped. I would have had to force it to cause any damage.

This.

I'll even take it a step farther and say that I've opened mine upside down many times. The worst that ever happened was the Kindle flopped itself over to the correct side and I had to turn it around to start reading.

Unless you're an extraordinary brute (or you lend your Kindle to gorillas), this is really not an issue.

I hear they may crack if you try to open a beer with them, though.

Haha, thanks guys.

I am very careful with my Kindle. I treat it with kid gloves, big time. I am very gentle so I don't see why it would crack like that. I wasn't aware of the K2 "hinge" cases when I was reading about the K3 but if they don't have any problems, then I'm sure there are none.

It should get here by the 29th and I already have the Amazon hinge case for it so I will keep it. Thanks guys!

I have a K3 and a K2, both with the Amazon "hinge" cases. No problems at all.

I have been using the hinged cases since the K2 came out and no problems. I just remember to be careful when I open it

There's a clip you can get that will keep the Kindle attached to the back. If you are worried, that should solve the problem.

I got my new K3 today (I bought the Amazon hinge case ahead of time) and popped the K3 into it. Works great! I'm really happy. Just need to remember to be careful and all.

I think it's going to be okay.

I received my lighted cover today. My dad already opened it from the wrong side, thus bending back the hinges on it. Luckily, no damage to the Kindle itself was done. Is it supposed to keep it secured to the back?

When you attach the kindle to the cover, the little hinges are what allows the kindle to power the light. See this video;
