I noticed that. I don't know if they did that on purpose or weren't being careful.

Walmart (U.S.) already has the Nia listed (for "preorder") but, at the time of writing this, you can't actually preorder. At this point the price is $100, but I'm guessing it will be on sale sooner or later.

It's now up on Kobo's UK site for pre-order. Now that it's been announced properly, I've made a new Kobo Nia thread for the MobileRead frontpage.

It is the "Kobo Nia" although the logo is in lower case.

I suggest comments on the actual announced product should go in the new thread

I didn't want to put this thread on the front page because of the vast number of speculative comments before the actual announcement.

I just realized the Aura 2 had an infrared touch screen where the Nia has a capacitive touch screen. I guess that's better or worse depending on your viewpoint.
The Aura 2, which the Nia is replacing, also had "comfort light". That was not a color-changing frontlight (I double checked).

Yes. The official announcement was scheduled for 1 minute after midnight.

I'll skip this model and keep hoping for another announcement in the not too distant future.

I love my Forma and I've been considering getting a spare but I've been waiting to see if there'll be a refreshed version, although the only real improvement I think it needs is a less sludgy power button. My hands are not strong but even though the Forma is large it's amazingly light, and the soft non-slip surface and the front-tilted wedge make it easy for me to hold onto. I might die if anything happened to it, so I suppose I should go ahead and order a spare anyway in case whatever new model comes along is less desirable and the current model becomes unavailable.

If they made a 6 or 7 inch version of the Forma I'd get one of those too; I like my Libra but it feels heavy to me and it's too slippery to hold without a case so that makes it even heavier. A smaller Forma would feel almost laughably weightless and the size would make it more portable.

Kobo could have gotten me to order a Nia too though, if they'd made the whole thing (front and back) yellow or blue like the covers or, even better, a red metal-flake finish like my Sony PRS 650.

Unless you are rebooting the Forma, you don't need to use the power button. A sleep cover will sleep/wake the Forma. No button needed. So if you don't have a sleep cover, I highly suggest you get one if you do not have one. Not only won't you have to use the power button nearly as much, you might find the Forma easier to hold.

Being able to hold the Forma comfortably and securely without a cover is my favorite thing about it. With a cover, it becomes heavier and feels like any other ereader. I mostly read at home now and I've never broken an ereader. It's a small risk and it's worth it to me. I can't hold a heavier ereader for long, so with anything but the Forma I need to use a stand. That's fine when I'm sitting at a table but less convenient for reading in bed or easy chair. I keep the Forma in a padded case when I'm not reading.

When I leave the house I take a different ereader, a smaller one with a case.

Thing is, you can get an Origami case that allows the case to be used as a stand. The Forma is not as easy to break because it has a plastic backed screen.

I know this seems incomprehensible to you, but I really prefer to read without a case, when practical. And I particularly dislike Origami cases. When I do use a stand I like to be able to adjust the angle and I like it to be more stable than most of the Origami cases I've seen. Even if I did like that type of case it still makes the Forma too heavy for me to hold.

I do have several stands that I like, to use for different purposes.

On a table at home, inside or on the porch, I like something fairly heavy that won't move around for both tablets and ereaders --

For portability, I take one these when I'm going out --

In bed or easy chair I use this with most of my ereaders (mine is solid blue, not leopard print; it's also good for a tablet) --

I like the second and third stands. Not so keen on the first one. It seems a bit too small.

Did JSWolf almost agree that it's OK to use this particular ebook reader without a case? Maybe???
