Kindle Keyboard (K3) gets firmware update
Amazon have just released a firmware update for the Kindle Keyboard (aka Kindle 3) which provides the Kindle Keyboard with support for Amazon's new KF8 ebook format that offers many advanced ebook formatting features.
It also includes updated fonts, and several other features of later Kindles. I was beginning to think that Amazon were never going to release a firmware update for this model. I'm very pleased to be proved wrong. UK (.co.uk) site US (.com) site From The Digital Reader Last edited by pdurrant; 09-12-2012 at 03:40 AM. Reason: Updated, not new fonts, apparently. Also added .com site link. |

That is indeed good news! I was beginning to think it just wasn't in the cards.

Very cool. But does the trick to enable the justification on/off toggle on the font menu still work after this upgrade? I can't stand fully justified text, and rely on this menu choice daily.
Restore the text justification menu toggle without a hack Thanks! Rob |

What's the upgrade number? I've had my k3 wifi on all day, and the fonts page and settings seem to not have changed. I'm on v. 3.3.

I have upgraded, and there are no new fonts, only more clarity in same fonts, I believe. It looks good, and my Kindle seems a bit faster.
Ah! The new fonts were invisible to me, but evident to those using other alphabets, such as Hebrew. Last edited by montalex; 09-15-2012 at 04:10 PM. Reason: wrong info |

Edit: Ok.. Sometimes works. I'm finding instances where full justification doesn't change. Last edited by jgaiser; 09-11-2012 at 08:15 PM. Reason: Added information |

Improvements
Quote:
New parental controls only extend to turning on and off your ability to access Archived Items, the Kindle Store, and the Experimental Browser with a password. None of the time control features that Jeff was talking about for the newer Kindles are included. In all, I am quite pleased with the update. |

The fonts DO appear darker and more "solid" - I habitually use a sans-serif font for reading - which (of all the standard font choices) shows the improvement the best.

Text getting darker
Now I have been switching in and out of different menus and eBooks for around an hour. It seems that fonts are getting darker as time goes on! Perhaps the pixels are adjusting to the new settings; a sort of technical stretch, if you will. I just turned on an overhead light, and now fonts really look darker.
