Case: PBchess running on password protected Kindle3. Kindle enters standby.
Upon taking Kindle out of standby, the keyboard is unresponsive to input. Pressing menu -> Exit will shutdown PBchess and then the password can then be entered. dM |

Another option is to use Alt+Shift (not simultaneously, but quickly, like in fbKindle): 1. Alt+Shitf to switch to Kindle shell; 2. Enter password; 3. Alt+Shift to switch to pbchess; 4. Continue game! |

It's known problem that pbchess doesn't redraw the screen when kindle return from the sleep mode. It will be solved in the next version. You can also use the following approach if you want to continue play chess after exit from the sleep mode: use "Menu/Continue game" to redraw the screen and continue playing. pbchess-1.2.2.1_kindle
This version - a huge leap forward compared to 1.2.1.4.
What's new: 1. Added support for comments and variations. A comfortable view of the games with comments and variations! (Examples of games in PGN-format will soon appear on my site), screenshots - here. 2. A dialog will customize the appearance of a large number of settings (display coordinates boards, borders, header, etc.); 3. Opportunity to enter "My name" in the settings; 4. Support for problems with a fixed solution allows you to create and solve a large number of tactical puzzles with the local goal (e.g. to capture a piece). 5. Support for chess books in PGN-format. At present there is a translation of A. Nimzovich, "My System" in PGN-format (in Russian). This book will be very useful for beginners chess. 6. User manual is updated. All the puzzles that are supported by version 1.2.1.4, and supported by this release. Starting with this version of the problem will be posted separately on the site and will not be included in the install. All available data for the software (games with comments, problems, the book) will be posted on my website soon! Need help with preparing content for pbchess (puzzles, commented games, books in PGN format). For those who helped this program will be free. Currently we only Russian contents to pbchess: http://pbchess.vlasovsoft.net/ru/contents.html English, German and other languages - coming soon! |

When I was young and active player, my best performance rating was 2285, average somewhere around/near 2200. And in fast games I not often win against fish :-) (I very weak in blitz).
I found, that StockFish(not -er) prefer material over position sometimes as you could see in presented games... :-) |

On Kindle hardware even the best engine will perform around 2400 - 2500 at the best.
On short time controls a human 2200 player should crush it easily. The trick it to play it as if it is a machine (which it is). There are a lot of weaknesses to be taken advantage of on weak hardware. Show the machines no mercy |

Consider, that 2500 ELO is a very strong player (I think about top1000), so if Kindle would be only 2500, it is very nice.
About blitz: I don't think that easy to beat a good engine in blitz, because it is not take one-move or two-moves mistakes (as human do). |
