I had installed some beta version. Then went to look at one of Adobe's free books and it told me I needed to upgrade. So I did and it crashed. It is going to crash on the Sony?

But that model clearly worked with PDF, and things are a bit different these days: there are already other companies making apps to create Adobe documents -- I would expect them to jump on making DE doc creation apps just as soon as they can. Unless there's something stopping them that I don't know about.

Yeah but again all those apps tend to be commercial, closed source windows/OSX only.

DE's there to renew interest in PDF. To get more sales for Acrobat Pro?
We here know of turnabouts if we need to create PDF outpout but someone in the corporate world will just buy A. Pro |

I dunno, yvanleterrible, could be, but they really seem to be trying to do something different with it.
I just downloaded and installed DE without a hitch. It opened a downloaded book just fine as well, and a PDF I had handy too. Maybe try removing the beta DE and installing fresh? |

We can expect Mobipocket to be based on this pretty soon. And Digital Editions will be available not only on reading devices, but also smartphones and PDA.
I guess the choice is pretty clear: that's the second format that we'll support on Feedbooks. With an output for both PDF and EPub, we'll work a bit like a web service version of InDesign (the goal for Adobe is to output PDF when fixed size is needed and EPub when a flexible format is needed). |

BTW removing previous copy of DE did not help, might have to try a restart. |

Try removing %appdata%\Adobe before reinstalling. That's where it keeps DRM data.
BTW, I noticed that so far all DRMed books are PDF only. Are they going to support DRM for epub/xhtml? |

That would be excellent, because that would effectively be another format merger. But I've got to ask what makes you expect Mobi to go to DE -- what have I missed?

Either way, it shouldn't hurt PDF any. |

I'd guess the biggest reason that the only DRM'd books it's working with at the moment is that PDF DRM is the only one they've had to work with during the development. |
