Strange Behaviour - missing content
As I have plenty of books I wanted to mark some down for reading soon.
So I added a column named Read and put a "x" there for any book I wanted to mark. Worked fine but one day all x were gone. The column was just empty. After a restart they were all back, but next time only a few and an other time a few different ones. What went wrong and how do I keep them reliable there? |

I would guess you had some sort of search / filter in place, so what was left had no marks.
ALWAYS LOOK at the status line next to Kovids name: Code:
[#####] = the size if the Library in all cases
[nn of #####] = the number of results from a search
[ nn of yyyy, 1 selected, ##### total] A VL is in place and it has yyyy members, AND nn items met your Search, you have 1 highlighted out of the fill Library #####

Misunderstanding
I am not doing any search. When I open Calibre I see all my columns:
Title, Author, Series, Langwich. And all columns are populated. Now I added a new column "Read" and filled it with an x for various books. Worked fine so whenever I opened Calibre I could see all information at once. But suddenly all x disappeared but after a restart they were back. Next time only some were there and so on. Now I found out that whenever I click on the name of the column they are back. I just want to find out why this is like that and how I can make it more reliable Quote:

1) the column definition into which you are putting the 'x', 2) the book list where the 'x's are missing, and 3) the book list after clicking the name of the column, where the 'x's reappear. I suspect it's something to do with sorting. Thank you. BR |

Thus:
The 'Lesen' column header has a down arrow which means its the sorted 'column', the un-x'd books will grouped at top of list, if you sort on another column the un-x'd books will scattered thoughout the list. BR Last edited by BetterRed; 10-14-2021 at 04:44 PM. |

Column definition
Got it.
Here is a pic of the definition. Seems to work fine now. Thank you. So there is only the problem left that sometimes the database is omitting books. Normally I do no search. I just open calibre, look at author, check series and if there is a book missing I try to add it. When I am finished I look for duplicates and very often the "missing" book was there and I have a duplicate. What can I do about that? |

How do you look at 'Author" without doing a search (Clicking in the Tag Browser creates a Search).
Unless you made a special setting, Calibre starts with No sorting (natural, ID#) as added, Order Next time, click once on an Author, the type 'Q" (Quick view). That shows all the same for the field chosen. (Also works for Series, and others). This does NOT launch a normal Search. Another find 'gotcha' is any spelling differences |

Learned something new
When I open Calibre it starts with sorted authors and I just browse.
I forgot how I did this. Too long ago. The Quickview was new to me, very useful. Thank you By the way, how does this work with Karma? Can I deal it out and how do I do it? Quote:
