Moving the Calibre library from one drive to another

I was wondering if someone could explain to me why my Calibre library has grown about 42.5 % in size simply because I moved my library from one drive to another?

To be more specific after upgrading Calibre to 2.15, I decided to move my library to a larger drive as I was running out of space on the current drive. I used Calibre to do the move and ended up with a Calibre directory some 119 Gbytes in size containing over 41,000 files and 21,000 folders. However I started with a Calibre directory on my old drive of only 83.5 GB in size containing only 29,000 files and 15,000 folders! Where did I get an extra 35 GB and 12,000 files from? I presume if I did a simple copy and paste I would end up with exactly what I started with ie. a 83.5 GB library.

Note: The number of books in my library as noted by Calibre has remained unchanged after the move.

What happens if you run Library Maintenance | Check Library and once that has finished, select the optional "Check if the files in your library match the infomation in the database" that will see what extra files exist?

I ran the tool as you suggested and it produced a total of 5 files. By their titles, I am pretty sure they were there before the move but even if they weren't, 5 files out of 12,118 extra files is a drop in the bucket.

Thanks for your quick response and suggestion even though the mystery remains.

Do some investigation. Open a few folders in the old and new library locations and see what is taking the extra space.
