brand-new Amazon format incompatible with Calibre 4.10.1
I have just bought the complete works of Erich Fromm in German for €149.99 which a lot of money. It has 40MB and has a totally new format, in which you can build in the Kindle-for-Mac application version 1.27.0 an index for all the individual books in the collection and then seach through that index, you can make your own flash cards and manage them in a Notebook, and also add highlights to the original texts.
Sadly, this new Amazon format is not translatable into Calibre; these Complete Works are not even readable in Calibre in a more pedestrian way, without the flash cards and the index. Please also see the attached screenshot. Can anybody help me with this? Thank you. |

That assumes he has a physical Kindle registered to his account. If he does not, he'll have to play around with Kindle4Mac. |

Although I chose in the old version of Kindle-for-Mac 1.17.1 NOT to apdate automatically, it happened nevertheless, that's why most of the problem.
Still, being able to index over the Complete Works (that is, many individual books in the one 40MB file) and then search based on that index, as well as creating flash cards (as an example, to learn from a handbook) would be really useful in many cases. Thank you, Kovid, for your answer so far. Would you consider the proposal above? |

No I'm afraid I have no interest in reverse enginering yet another proprietary amazon format. There already exist the KFX Output plugin for calibre which uses kindlegen to do this.

See the thread Dealing with Kindle for PC/Mac 1.19 (and later) and KFX in calibre. The spoiler in this post describes how to avoid KCR in recent versions of Kindle for Mac. Those are all features that have been present in the Kindle for PC/Mac app for a long time. |
