14 days until some big conference where they will announce it and show off the same slick demos we've already seen. there's a big difference between that and actually having it in your hand isn't there? as i said, you run down to the store and wait. meanwhile me and 1,000,000+ other people are using our ipads today. i wonder what that number will be when android + flash is actually shipping.

if you are so sure of the platform why don't you have an android already in hand just waiting for that magical upgrade that will arrive in 14 days..?

to be honest, i do hope you ditch your iphone for one of these wondrous android phones and leave the apple forum, as entertaining as you are your repeated attempts at useful debate are more noise than signal.

Silly argument as the iPad just isn't an option for people who frequent Flash using sites and want to do so on whatever tablet they buy.

The iPad is a great device for people who don't need Flash and just need a simple media consumption tablet.

But it's not like those of us who need flash, need a more work/productivity oriented tablet are missing out on anything by waiting vs. dropping $500+ on a device that doesn't fit our needs.

Mind you -- I'm not in the "I don't want flash on the iPad" crowd. I simply understand that Jobs has good reasons for the choice. I'd just prefer to have the option to have my battery run down in a couple hours if I wanted to see flash content.

Where did you read this? (the android delay)

From all the stuff I seen it is end of May early June. I don't doubt you I just would like to see as from what I heard 2.2 is soon, and it is releasing with Flash. It is called Froyo and they are speculating that it doesn't need 10.1 that is something seperate.

We will definitely know more in the next coming days.

But again the flash on iPad is irrelevant argument (meaning it is not going to happen). But flash isn't dying either.

He didn't read it anywhere. He meant that was how he interpreted the Flash news. i.e. he thinks the Android update will have to be delayed to account for Flash.

Getting back to the list, from before the flash forum bomb exploded...

Please forgive me for quoting my own post which is 5 pages back, to make sense of lifevicarious' reply below:

I raised this as it was one of the frequent comments from users discussing reading on the iPad, and was also a common reason why people were saying they wanted one.

For many people, reading multi-column pdf documents, a larger screen would be required for comfort, so this is well worth pointing out in this list which is intended to help people who are trying to decide whether to buy an iPad.

You're right, they will probably have to wait for a while, for the Skiff, or Que or something else new, but that's not a reason for not reporting that the iPad may not be an appropriate choice for this purpose. Try it before you buy it.

Agreed, ideally I need a screen an inch or so bigger as I do read a good bit of 2-3 column A4 PDFs on a regular basis.

Skiff has the screen size right, but e-ink SUCKS for research work. Just too damn slow for flipping through articles etc. Que will have that problem and I'm pretty sure it's only got a 9.7" screen.

Also it's damn pricey. No way I'd pay more for a large screen dedicated reader than what the iPad costs as I want a multi function tablet that I can do more than read on.

So it's just a matter of waiting for an lcd tablet with a feature set more up my alley to come out. Or eventually settling for an iPad if nothing better comes out in the next year or so.

The Que's got a 10.5" screen, but yes, that may still be too small.

Yeah, I just checked again, it's 10.7. A tad small, but an extra diagonal inch would still be a big help.

But again e-ink kills it for me. My Kindle 1 will be the only e-ink device I own.

I also think it fair to point out that Apple sort of drew a line in the sand with the first Gen. iPad... They have defined the arena that all other devices that do all sorts of things it doesn't (yet?) do, and everyone is now trying to define their entry into this arena as being (better, faster, cooler...) than the iPad.

I bought mine with a specific use in mind, and for the most part I think it has more than met my expectations. What might come along later? Always willing to find out!

10.7" would be good enough for full-size PDFs, though.

Here is to the first tablet with great UI, great battery life and good design that has 10.7" or larger screen

One thing that you can't do, or at least I haven't figured out how to do, is change avatars on MR. For those who know me, that's a major downer for me. I guess I won't be getting rid of the laptop any time soon...
