RP gets you into diags by creating a file in user store while CRP gets you into diags by connecting a USB cable (while booting).

Yeah, I got that from the description. However, what I am not sure of was: does the connected usb cable need to have power (that is: other end attached to a power source) or not?

I don't think that was ever tested for, since it would take a hand-made cable.
The USB cables that are actually 2-wire, are "Power only" - The USB cables that are actually 4-wire, are "Power and Data" - I have never heard of a 2-wire, "Data Only" USB cable. If your thinking a 4-wire cable plugged into a powered hub, and no power on the hub - well, enough "power" will "leak" from the driver connection to the driven connection(s) to keep the link alive. (Been there, done that, used to accidentally kick the wall wart out of the wall frequently.) |

Yes, the USB cable needs to be powered - so anything that is able to charge Kindle has to be on the other side of the cable: PC, laptop, smartphone, USB power adapter, ...

@dsmid: Did you ever figure out why the CRP doesn't work on the Touch (at boot time)? [Besides the Touch having a crappy USB stack ^^]

Yep, each model's "charging" indicator has a different sysfs path.
Normally you would call Code:
kdb get system/driver/charger/SYS_CHARGING_FILE The crpa script contains paths for both PW1 and PW2 but I don't know what the correct path for KT is. |

@dsmid: Oh, sorry, I meant even with the correct path handled (which is /sys/devices/platform/fsl-usb2-udc/connected, FWIW), it doesn't take at boot, but works fine at a later time.

For safety reasons I installed USB Networking and the rescue pack (including the coward pack) on my PW2. Do I have to set anything in the KUAL Menu for the USB Networking to be prepared if something goes really wrong on my device?

USBNet should be setup and enabled at boot to be of any use in these kind of cases, but, granted, on FW 5.x, you have to know exactly what's causing a boot to fail and be really, really, really fast if you hope to fix it over USBNet. Hence the Rescue Pack

So, the USB Networking is basically of no interest for me. :-)

I was trying to update the jailbreak from 1.11N to 1.13N and followed the directions to unzip the kindle-5.4-jailbreak to the root. Rebooted the device, saw the Update Successful screen, but never saw the **** JAILBREAK **** notice.
Being unsure if the update took, I used the Update_jailbreak_bridge_1.13.N_install file and saw the proper Jailbreak notice. So am I up to date with 1.13N? and how to tell? Also there look to be some files left over in the root from my original attempt. Which ones can I delete? Thank you ![]() |

@alaskazimm: What @Ruskie_it said. The JB is *NOT* a real update package, it should *never* trigger an update or a reboot if done properly (and run on a supported FW version).
The bridge, on the other hand, is a real update package. Trying to do both at the same time will only confuse you and the system. |

Thank you NiLuJe and Ruskie_it. That makes sense; I think I'm all straight on that now.
