Of course not. I'm saying that a sample won't do, because the series is too complicated to take a proper grasp with only a few chapters. You might want to invest time in at least the whole first book.

Exactly. Thank you, covingtoncat.

Technomancer by BV Larson-

"A new kind of alien invasion…

When Quentin Draith wakes up in a private sanatorium, he has no memory of who he is or how he received the injuries riddling his body. All he knows is that he has to get out, away from the drugs being pumped into him and back to the real world to search for answers. His first question: How did his friend Tony’s internal organs fill with sand, killing him in a Las Vegas car crash?

After a narrow escape, he tracks down the basic facts: he is an investigator and blogger specializing in the supernatural—which is a good thing, because Quentin’s life is getting stranger by the minute. It seems he is one of a special breed, a person with unusual powers. He’s also the prime suspect in a string of murders linked by a series of seemingly mundane objects. The deeper he digs and the harder he works to clear his name, the more Quentin realizes that some truths are better off staying buried…"

Yesterday while going downtown, I started reading the first book by Shayne Parkinson, Sentence of Marriage, while on the bus and was so absorbed with what I was reading that I forgot to get off the bus. Only noticing that my husband and children were also getting off snapped me out of my bubble. There are so far 5 books in the series, and I bought the other 4 in the Smashwords sale.

"Neither Here Nor There" by Bill Bryson

Bill Bryson's 2nd travel book, after "The Lost Continent". In "Neither Here Nor There" he describes a journey through Europe, from Norway to Instanbul, made around 1990 (a year of momentous political change), retracing a journey he made as a student in the 1970s.

I can't read Bill Bryson's books in public - it would be too embarrassing. He's one of the few authors who has the ability to have me howling in helpless laughter at his writing.

This was a quick, fun, read, and the Kindle edition is very nicely formatted. I recommend it.

I'm torn between taking an Honor Harrington break by reading The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #1) or continuing the series by reading War of Honor (Honor Harrington #10).

Cool Hugh Howey and Donald Hamilton

Wow! There are only 4 Molly Fyde books available and what with the story arc they seem to be telling I'm wondering if the 4th book will conclude it? If just 4 books is all there is then I'm already halfway through the story! This has been, so far, a really fun read.

Now on to a change of pace, first published in 1960, Donald Hamilton's 1st book in the Matt Helm series, Death of a Citizen.

I've recently started reading Death Masks by Jim Butcher

Quote:
Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only practicing professional wizard, should be happy that business is pretty good for a change. But now he’s getting more than he bargained for.

A duel with the Red Court of Vampires’ champion, who must kill Harry to end the war between vampires and wizards…

Professional hit men using Harry for target practice…

The missing Shroud of Turin…

A handless and headless corpse the Chicago police need identified…

Not to mention the return of Harry’s ex-girlfriend Susan, who’s still struggling with her semivampiric nature. And who seems to have a new man in her life.

Some days, it just doesn’t pay to get out of bed. No matter how much you’re charging.

The dichotomy - a classic, and then some fluff.

Next? Not sure. Not the next one in this series, though I'll certainly read that at some point. But possible a classic - I've been lazy about that.
Finished The Snows of Kilimanjaro by Ernest Hemingway. This is a short story, really, but worthy of its reputation.

Next up? Oh, how about something totally fluffy -- a Georgette Heyer. Next on my Heyer list is: The Convenient Marriage.

I'm really liking this series. The first is almost a stand-alone, but the remaining four seem to be one big story. This fourth book is very good, and I'm looking forward to the last.

But first another of the Gideon Oliver Mysteries, Twenty Blue Devils by Aaron Elkins.

Enjoying Nancy Fulda's Dead Men Can't Cry at the moment. It's an anothology of sci-fi shorts. Only a third in but very entertaining thus far.

I'm reading this for review on my site.

Recent reads have included:
- Turing Evolved by David Kitson. Read and reviewed on my site. It's good and ambitious, but I think it needs a bit of help from a good editor. Still - free is pretty inexpensive.

- The Caline Conspiracy by M.H. Head. Read and reviewed on my site. I liked this one - futuristic P.I. mystery. Not quite as good as the last one by this author Fate's Mirror, but I still gave it 4 stars.

- Thin Blood by Vicky Tyley. Read for my site, but haven't written the review yet. This author was recommended to me as a good crime/mystery author. The writing is definitely good, but I struggled a little with the main character. Her stupidity didn't align that well with who/what she was. But still - good read.

- Grass for His Pillow by Lian Hearn. Second book of a series - read the first early in the year. I liked it and it flowed nicely, but it didn't wow me.

Have you guys read Lexapros and Cons? is pretty funny! I just finished and am reading "I Hunt Killers" now. This one is about a boy who's father is the world's most notorious serial killer and his father trained him to be just like him.

Sigh. This one just didn't do it for me. Abandoned 1/3rd of the way through.

Next, Wen Spencer's "A Brother's Price", which I read some time ago, but had completely forgotten. Rediscovery is proceeding with enjoyment.
