The error message I get was unknown AZW and then it referred me to this thread.

I didn't want to use Method 2 (renaming the file) as then I would have to reimport my old files. I was able to download the USB and that imported fine into Calibre.

Current KFX books from Amazon can't have the DRM removed at all. The only option is to avoid KFX.

Most Kindle books are available in multiple formats from Amazon. The particular format delivered in each case depends on what is supported by the app or device receiving it. For those books avoiding KFX is a matter of choosing a destination or delivery method that does not support KFX. Methods for doing that are documented in the first post of this thread.

There is a limited set of books that Amazon only makes available in KFX with the latest unbroken DRM. Those are mainly expensive textbooks and books in some specific languages or published for specific markets.

I can't find an example right now, but if you see something on the book's page about requiring the latest Kindle app or it says only available on these apps/devices and that list doesn't include older Kindles, then it is probably only available in the latest KFX.

If I see an See all supported devices link, it's probably KFX only. If I see something like the attached image when I click on the See all supported devices, it's a KFX with no other options.

Well it looks like my K4PC updated to 1.33 even though I had the update option unchecked. I will have to uninstall and reinstall. And run the .bat file again before I connect to the internet. UGH!!!
