Yeah, that original page still shows up in the US, and it does tell me that I bought it. They're both by the same publisher. Book cover has changed slightly though.

Cue Twilight Zone music .....

Interestingly enough, those books are on sale at the exact same price on amazon.ca. In CDN$.

I'd be tempted, but I've heard that Goodkind's novels contain content that I probably wouldn't enjoy. (Got into a lot of discussions about Sword of Truth back when Legend of the Seeker was on. Man i loved that show, but I learned a lot about the differences between the adaptation and the source material.)

Now see, I don't much care for fantasy. Particular lengthy fantasy epics. The one thing that sounded interesting to me was to see how he would incorporate Ayn Rand-ian ideas into a story featuring wizards and dragons.

From your post, I suspect I would agree with you. Ayn Rand was a nut. But it does potentially give this fantasy series a unique spin.

Marked In Flesh by Anne Bishop (A Novel of the Others #4) is currently on sale for $1.99 in the US

https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/marked-in-flesh
https://www.amazon.com/Marked-Flesh-.../dp/B00Z8VTQBK

Quote
"The vampires and shapeshifters known as the Others leave the humans they consider “clever meat” alone, as long as the humans provide them with manufactured goods and do not encroach upon the natural resources that the Others control. Now, in a book that earned nearly 7,600 five-star Goodreads.com ratings, a group of rogue humans is leading violent attacks against the Others in a land grab, unaware that they are provoking even more dangerous forces. Locus calls it “scary and charming.”

Book 1 in the series "Written In Red" is also discounted/available for $2.99

https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/written-in-red-1

"enter a world inhabited by the Others, unearthly entities—vampires and shape-shifters among them—who rule the Earth and whose prey are humans."

IIRC, there's also a couple chapters of magical involuntary BDSM in Wizard's First Rule between the seeker and the confessor, or at least Richard (who I think is the seeker) and someone else, if you're into that sort of thing. I don't know whether it continues in the later books.

Oh. Well, that'll be a surprise I guess. I picked up the first two books since they seem to form a mini-arc and I was interested to see how he wove Rand's 'virtue of selfishness' clap-trap into a fantasy epic. Hopefully I don't wind up reading about a hero running around in a gimp mask.

IIRC, it's something like his Mistress controls his behavior by inflicting intense pain on him until he does her bidding and rewards submission with intense pleasure, and then conditions him to always seek her approval. I think there's a chapter or two on this, and then I think somehow his love for another woman allows him to break his conditioning. I might have given up on the book around that point.

It has been years and I really don't recall details but I dropped the series because of the S&M and rape. Not for me, thanks. Never could understand all the praise for him back in the day. Some are into that I guess.

This put me off of them as well. I enjoyed the TV series though, where that element was pretty much removed entirely.

Currently on Amazon Jack of Souls by Stephen Merlino is free. I highly recommend this book, both my spouse and I have been anxiously waiting for the next book in the series. The fantasy world is well constructed and is fairly unique. The writing is very atmospheric, my spouse likens it to the Ravenloft books.

The thrilling conclusion to the epic quest...

Will they save her?

In the final instalment of the Wells of Ythan quartet, the questers find themselves at the end of the Pilgrim Path where they should find Princess Livia ready and waiting to be awoken from her hundred years’ sleep. She is the rightful heir to the Empty Throne, and will reunite the land once more.

However, they’re faced with yet another obstacle. In order to awaken her, they must take the Princess to the Wells of Ythan to bathe in their mystical waters.

But it’s not the just the heroes who want the healing powers of the Wells.

The Regent, currently ruling with malicious, ambivalent authority over the kingdom, travels to the enchanted springs to restore his health and continue his evil reign of power. He is poisoned, almost to death, and must seek out this cure.

The questers must fight against all odds to restore the Princess to her rightful place. But once they do, that is when the real battle will begin.

The fight for the future of Ythan … or its doom.

In this stunning conclusion, good fights evil in a grand quest to restore the rightful Princess to the Empty throne, and rid the land of evil for good.

From fantasy author Marc Alexander comes Enchantment’s End the fourth and final instalment of the Wells of Ythan series. Follow the unlikely crew of an apprentice toymaker, a spoiled young nobleman, a court jester and their companions as they search for the lost Princess Livia.

MARC ALEXANDER is a former Fleet Street journalist and a consultant editor of Heritage Magazine. For many years he contributed a regular history column to Majesty magazine. His books include The Outrageous Queens, Haunted Churches and Abbeys of Britain, Royal Murder and A Companion to the Royal Heritage of Britain. Marc lives in London.
