Kobo Bug thread

I'm not sure this is a bug or just that Kobo default reader app does not support this type of footnote.
I can't see the footnote marker, and can only view the footnote in the end of the chapter. I can view normally by using Moon+ Reader, Reasily or Calibre.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this? Really appreciate your help.

I am pretty sure this is a font issue. The symbol used for the footnote reference is named "CIRCLE WHITE BULLET" (according to the calibre editor). This looks to be Unicode character U+29BE. From what I can see, none of the fonts supplied with the device have this character. And unfortunately, the firmware doesn't show anything to indicate a character is missing.

The fix is to either sideload a font that does include the character or edit the book and change it to a character that will be displayed.

And the pop-up shows not only the footnote but also a lot of other things too.
Can you please take a look and advise me what to do?

I have a H2O reader , updated to 4.31.

I did install the Koreader and plato but then removed them. (deleted the folder method).

My "bug" is that I now have 150 "books" by Unknown Authors that are actually the kobo symbols . By that I mean each of the "books" written by "Unknown" is a kobo visual like < or > or & or # or more specific kobo symbols that I can't type ..( like a house , a plug, a danger triangle with exclamation mark in it, etc )
It's difficult to describe but does this sound familar to anyone ?

Bug: Undesired Behavior When Connecting to a Windows 10 computer using Included USB-C Cable.(Including non-detection by the computer but the "Connected to Computer" screen displayed on the Libra 2, or the device freezing on the "Connect to computer prompt" screen when "Connect" selected. If the freezing happens the Kobo will restart automatically after about 5 min)

Solution: Downgrading to 4.30 solved all issues with USB connections and the device connects to the computer consistently.......

I am running exactly the same problem with 4.31 on two separate Libra 2 devices. Only the native USB cable works once in a while (the device freezes and needs to be rebooted 2 times out of 3 attempts to connect) All other (non-native) USB cables do not work at all. The OS = Windows 10. The problems have started after the update to v4.31. Darn, I just finished the patching but it seems that I now have to roll back to 4.30 and do it again ...

I am definitely not seeing that on any of my devices running 4.32.19501. There are some circumstances where the cover can disappear for a book, but, a reboot will usually fix that. Or reading a few other books.

Where are they not showing? In the book list? Or when the device is sleeping? What is shown instead?

I wonder if the cover generation failed for some reason or just hasn't happened yet. I wouldn't notice this as I typically (but not always) generate covers in calibre and send them instead of waiting for device cover generation.

Basicaly it's not showing everywhere (sleeping, booklist or main menu), just showing book's name instead of cover. When i realize the bug, i restarted the device twice but the problem still persists.

That is the generic cover used when the cover can't be generated from some reason. For a PDF, the cover should be the first page. If the PDF had DRM and can't be opened on the device, I think you get an all black cover (been a while since I tried). One reason for the cover not being generated is if there is no free space. And it is possible the covers stop being generated before the device runs out of space. For something else, it requires 100MB free. If you have less than that, it could be the issue.

Another possibility is the file name. There can be issues with the extended character sets of some languages. If you use calibre, the filenames are sanitized to prevent these sort of problems. But, if you are manually copying the books, that could be a problem.

Thanks for trying to help. So far this is how I save my books in the device.

- There are no spaces in the book names and universal characters are used.
- There is about 3GB of free space in the memory.
- I created some pdf files myself, so there is no DRM issue.

And these files looked fine before the update, the covers were displaying without any issues, but after that they completely disappeared. I think the bug is caused by the update. Because only Kepub files work without problems.

And, after updating the device and noticing the bug, I added new books (epub) and the problem still persists.

For me, I read 99% epub and I haven't seen any issues with the covers. If anything, the covers and thumbnails pop up faster with 4.32 than with 4.30/4.31 after I transfer the epubs using calibre.

I found where I went wrong. With @DNSB's post, I realized that the source of the bug was not the update, the point I forgot to mention is; I used to send my books directly via Dropbox with Kobocloud plugin and I was storing the new books inside the ".add/Kobocloud/Library" folder. When I send it to the device via Calibre, the covers look fine now. Sorry for my carelessness, folks. Thanks again for your help @davidfor, @DNSB

Bug: When drawing in Sketchpad, there is too thin line in Aura One device and these thin lines aren't saved to output svg file...
