The problem with using the window/viewport height is that it can change and any change means the cached thumbnails will all be invalidated, which is a huge cost. Also semantically, I dont think the books should become smaller as u shrink the window, the spines become illegible in that case.

And of course if you dont like 1/3rd screen height per shelf, you can adjust it to whatever fixed value you like in preferences.

its happening while its counting. dont know if they automatically get removed after the complete counting is done, but it should happen after an individual file has completed, or at least after x amount of files. i have a library thats over 200gb in size, thats too much space to take up all at once on my c drive just for temp files.
issue still persists with --ignore-plugins. sending you a single epub wouldnt solve much if the issue happens during the count, not (necessarily) after

The temp files are removed after each count so if thats not happening for you a single EPUB is quite sufficient to demonstrate it.

Yeah, here my idea to deduce the "max viewport" by remove the toolbars height from the screen height. Unlike if the toolbars height varies to adapt as well to the MainWindows height, we should have a "static/constant" value like only using the sceen height.
I'm checking to see how it's possible, it would be the best of both worlds.

And PR send for the highlight.

I have just installed the version 8.99.1, and the Pages show error with values of -2.

I waited for 10 minutes and searched for books with pages greater than 0 (pages:"> 0"), it returns nothing.

So, after more test, it occure that the Automatic height is quite capricious. If we change any setting (not only bookshelf ones), calculate_shelf_geometry() is recall and the resulting height will be different.
I think so it safer to remove automatic height and use a static value as default (made a PR for that).

Bug invalidate, that a weird behavior of my side.

I had the same problem with errors in the Pages column, all 30,000 of them.

I installed first on the portable version and everything ran well, with no problems, so I moved back to the installed version which I usually use, and found the Pages column giving me the errors.

As my portable library is a copy of the installed one, I copied it across and replaced the problem one and that worked well. The page counts were all still in place in the column.

I still don’t know what the problem was, and would be most interested to know.

Erh, I'm not convaicue by the automatic height at 1/3. Maybe better 1/4? Use 1/4 seem to have more change to display 3 full row (and the top edge of the fourth), rather than 1/3 wich is a 2.5 not very good.

On my main laptop, I get 5 full shelves shown. What I would like it so be able to make the shelves larger and at least do away with one of the selves and use that to make the other larger. My laptop screen is 17.3" at 2560x1440.

@nqk: Run in debug mode and go to preferences->look & feel->book shelf and trigger a recount and see if there are any errors in the debug log.

Everyone has a different preference here, that is why it is now configurable.
