Thanks for the cover reports. I just ordered the tan to get here on friday. Merlot was out of stock and I think I like the tan better anyway.

The screen is amazing. There are no shadows or cones, and I can’t tell where the light is coming from. I know the flush screen has something to do with that...
I posted this over on the Amazon Kindle Forum: After using the new Oasis for a bit, I am thrilled. I’ve sent books to the device from MYCAD and I’ve emailed a book to check that method. The device is fast and responsive. Page turns are seamless. The way the back is designed with the thicker bit behind the buttons fits my hands well for holding one handed. The menus seem well thought out and intuitive, (although I’ve used many devices and am not afraid to poke around). The screen is very crisp, the lights are extremely even. There are no cones or shadows, and the light adjustment is fast and easy. The screen rotation seems to work perfectly, and rotates a full 180 degrees from portrait to portrait or landscape to landscape. I do wish there was a rotation lock, for those times I’m walking around with the device in my hand, to reduce battery use as it moves. But lack of a lock isn’t going to be a problem for me. The new font controls are great, more sizes, and bold options. The screen invert option works well, although it won’t be something I use often. I know there are users who want that option, and they should be satisfied with how well it works. I also like the Display Size options that increase the text and images on the Home screen. This is a terrific improvement. I never saw or used the first Oasis, but this one is a home run imo. Adding...the only thing I miss from my Kobo is the screen swipe up/down to adjust the light. I keep doing it out of habit. Last edited by Deskisamess; 10-31-2017 at 03:38 PM. |

Here is the screen inverted. The slight foggy look is from light reflection, the screen doesn’t look that way.

I may wait and see if my Oasis 1 can do the screen inversion once it gets the firmware upgrade. Sales language said that the original Oasis would get it too, as I understand it. Trying to wait patiently ..... (no, I don't care enough to go looking for the update, as easy as I know that is.) |

I echo the comments from Deskisamess above. The screen is stunning, lighting is flawless, quality outstanding. It is fast and responsive with page turns and rotation. All the other settings descriptions have already been posted as a result of the recent firmware release.
For me, it is perfection. I could not be more pleased. |

Snapped a picture of reversed text for those who are curious. The photo earlier in the thread is from a directly-above view, so these were shot at an angle deliberately to represent looking at the Kindle while it sits on a table.
I had been expecting a slight border of light at the edge of the screen, but the black goes all the way to the edge. Perfect. This will probably be most useful to me late at night. It's a shame there's no shortcut for it on the menu gear drop down. Sometimes I'm reading in the dark while lying in bed and I feel guilty for even the small amount of light the screen puts out at a low setting. This is perfect for that situation. Images in thumbnails - ed. Why yes, I do like thrillers. I also have discovered that lifting the Kindle often pulls it out of the cover since the magnets adhering it to the back of the case are also adhering it to the folded-over front half of the cover. I can prevent it from happening by slipping my fingers under the front part of the cover and scooping it all up at once, but it'll take getting used to. It's the Amazon water-safe blue fabric cover, though that's probably fairly clear from the picture. I doubt any third parties use that color yet. Last edited by issybird; 10-31-2017 at 04:58 PM. Reason: Oversize images thumbnailed. |

Anyone find a way to show battery percentage on the new oasis? I sure can't find it.
