I was hoping for something with polka dots or an interesting pattern, but I couldn't find anything I liked that still had the hand strap. |

I was checking my order history on Amazon for a past purchase and noticed that the Fire 7 I recently ordered from Prime Now wasn't there. So i went to Prime Now and saw it listed there.
I knew Amazon treated Prime Now as a separate store with its own inventory, but I thought they'd include orders from there in Amazon's order history. They don't. Since Prime Now has its own inventory, it's another place to check for stock that's back ordered in Amazon's main store. Of course, you need to be in a Prime Now city to take advantage of it. For example, the Echo is back ordered at Amazon until 02 Jun, but is immediately available at Prime Now. |

It is not too bad if you root it, and install CM on it. Fire OS is terrible. Plus you can setup link2sd on it and load all your apps on the sd card.

Two questions -
1. Does the new 7" have real hardware volume up & down buttons. The on-screen only volume control on my original Fire 7 inch always annoyed me. 2. Will it fit the case I have for the old 7"? It's a slide-in case, so if slightly loose, it may not matter. And a third question for those of you with a crystal ball, is it likely to go on sale again before black Friday? ![]() ![]() I'm thinking about getting one, mostly for TTS and Audible. |

I found the dimensions on Wikipedia. The new one is 1mm taller, 5mm narrower and .8mm thinner. |

I wouldn't be totally opposed to making extra cutouts in the case, if it fits otherwise. Too bad we don't have Prime Now here yet. I can wait for a sale while I decide if I really want one. |

My hubby has my old one. The battery on the 2011 Fire is awesome! With Wifi off it holds a charge in standby for a very long time. I charged it two days ago log said last charge was 3/11 before that. It was at 23% when I charged it. He seldoms ever uses it but for Bible reading every now and then.
You will find the newer Fire will need to be charged quite often compare to the old one. Sent from my XT1528 using Tapatalk |

Where are Kindle books stored on the Fire? I want to back them up: can I transfer them to my PC from the Fire, or do I need to install Kindle for PC on my computer and re-download them?

The short answer is that you need to use Kindle for PC. The reason is that Amazon has made it difficult to access the automatically downloaded book files on Fire Tablets. Even if you find the files, any with DRM will be unusable because Fire DRM is unsupported by "the tools". Also, any books with "enhanced typesetting" will be in KFX format, which cannot be processed or converted by any existing software even if you could remove the DRM, which you can't. |

But just out of curiosity, even if I can't convert them, where ARE the Kindle files on the Fire? I had used File Explorer to search for azw and mobi files with no results. I just now looked for kfx (which I'd never heard of), and nothing comes up for that format either. |
