About 95% of the text of this short (33 pages, and using large type at that) book is dedicated to listing Kindle public domain books. This in itself is not all that helpful--books like that are easy to find at Amazon.

However, this list would have tremendous value if the author has used some knowledge and experience to select the better books under each topic. I say, "if"--I have my doubts that the author has done this.

There is not much "meat" in the other 5% or so of the text, which tells how to search for free books at Amazon. This is the gist of it:
". . . . type 'Free Kindle book' and add the Christian topic you are interested in . . . . Remember, these are daily specials . . . . Now try, 'Free Kindle books' and add the last name of your favourite [sic] Christian author". Then, he gives a couple more examples of topics that you can search for.

I've said all of that to say this: there is not much in this booklet that you don't probably already know.
Ah but the point is that the individual reader makes up his/her own mind if they want a given book or not. While many are free PD books it does save the individual time searching if someone has already done the work and shared the results. And when I posted the link ther was no sign of it even being .99 for it. It was listed as $0.00 at the time. A lot of books here at MR re free for just a short time so it's not always clear that a given book is normally .99 or more either. It's the luck of the draw at all times and the thread saves time looking for books in genre or topic x as well.

Loving Yourself--Good, Bad, or Indifferent? This Book Addresses that. 99 Cents.

Ego Trip: Rediscovering Grace in a Culture of Self-Esteem. By Glynn Harrison. Rated 4 1/2 stars, but from only 5 reviews at the present moment. Print list price $16.99; regular digital or digital list price unknown; Kindle price now $0.99. HarperCollins Publishing, publisher. http://www.amazon.com/Ego-Trip-Redis...of+Self-Esteem.

Book Description

Is loving yourself really the solution to all your problems?

In the world of popular psychology, there are few things more protected or indulged than that fragile little trait known as self-esteem. Today, it’s not the sin of pride we worry about, but the sin of not liking ourselves enough.

In
Ego Trip, psychiatrist Glynn Harrison takes aim at what has become one of Western society’s most entrenched ideologies. He charts the rise of this ubiquitous value, arguing that the “science” underlying it is flawed, that there is little evidence efforts to promote self-esteem work, and that, in its popular form of “boosterism,” self-esteem promotion comes with hazardous and unwanted side effects.

Is there a more biblically and psychologically secure approach to big questions of significance and worth? Dr. Harrison asks.

You will be intrigued, challenged, and quite possibly freed by his conclusion: compared with the failed ideology of self-esteem, the gospel offers the foundation for personal significance and meaning.

Yep. If I miss a sale, it's hard to buy the item even if I really want/need the book/grocery item/whatever right then.

My misunderstanding. Of course I was tired last night as well. I often mark boks for my wish list if I miss the sale so I can go back later if/when it goes on sale again. Even at .99 if there are enough books the amount of $ spent starts to grow.

Highly-Rated The Final Days of Jesus, by Kostenberger. $3.19 at Christianbook.

You may notice two oddities about this particular post of mine. First, it's a markdown at Christianbook, not Amazon. Why? It's not available marked down at Amazon. Second, at $3.19 it's a little bit more expensive than the books that I like to post (yes, I'm so cheap . . . er . . . thrifty that I consider $3.19 to be expensive for an ebook). However, given the fact that it is so highly rated, and on the basis of my personal perusal of the book, I think that it's really high quality, so I'm willing to relax my standards a little. But don't expect this to become a habit. ha.

Being at Christianbook, this ebook is in the ePub format. It's DRM-free, however.

The Final Days of Jesus: The Most Important Week of the Most Important Person Who Ever Lived. By Andreas J. Kostenberger; Justin Taylor; Alexander Stewart. Rated 5 stars, but from only 3 reviews; rated 4 1/2 stars at Amazon, from 56 reviews. Retail price $13.99; Christianbook price now $3.19. Crossway, publisher. 224 pages. http://www.christianbook.com/Christi...EB&event=ESRCG.

Book Description
A Guide to Walk With Jesus During His Last Week on Earth

On March 29, AD 33, Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem and boldly predicted that he would soon be put to death - executed on a cross, like a common criminal. So began the most important week of the most important person who ever lived.

Nearly 2,000 years later, the events that took place during Jesus's last days still reverberate through the ages. Designed as a day-by-day guide to Passion Week,
The Final Days of Jesus leads us to re-examine and meditate on the history-making, earth-shaking significance of Jesus's arrest, trial, crucifixion, and empty tomb.

Combining a chronological arrangement of the Gospel accounts with insightful commentary, charts, and maps, this book will help you better understand what actually happened all those years ago . . . and why it matters today.

Great Roland Bainton Book on Church History, at the Great Price of $2.99.

The author of this book, Roland Bainton, was a very prolific and highly regarded writer on the subject of "church history." Several of his books are classics or near-classics on their topics.

This book is recently published. It appears to be a reprint, however, of an earlier edition (1964) of the same title.

One characteristic of Bainton's writings is that they are easy to read. That is true of this one. A mountain of material has been written on church history; this book is only 326 pages, though, so you won't get bogged down in endless details.

If you can own only one book of the subject of church history, this may very well be the one that you should own.

Horizon History of Christianity. By Roland H. Bainton. Rated 5 stars, but from only 1 review at the present moment (this edition was published recently); the 1964 edition is rated 4 stars, but from only 4 reviews, at GoodReads. Print list price N/A; digital list(?) price $9.99; Kindle price now $2.99. New Word City, publisher. 326 pages. http://www.amazon.com/Horizon-Histor...f+christianity.

Book Description
All of us, whatever our individual beliefs, belong to a society shaped by the Christian tradition. It is an extraordinary history. Over the centuries since the death of Christ, his followers have known adversity and defeat as well as glory and power – the victories of Charlemagne, or the Crusades, matched by those of Hun, Moor, or Turk. Christianity has borne persecution and division, each taking its terrible toll martyrs. It has assumed unexpected forms, from fourth-century Arianism to seventeenth-century Quakerism. It has been the cause and the victim of war and holocaust. It has been challenged by the findings of such scientists as Galileo and Darwin and – never more markedly than our own 21st century – by a progressive secularism.

Yet in every sphere of Western life and achievement – in our art and literature, our politics and our law, our philosophy – we find the enduring legacy of the Christian experience.

Here is a sound, readable guide to Christianity as a whole – its origins, its revolutionary impact on human affairs, its development over twenty-one centuries, its role as a fundamental, powerful force in our world and our lives.

Jesus Freaks: Sins of the Father by Andrea Randall
Amazon

Book Description:
Kennedy Sawyer is the valedictorian of her upper middle class, liberal high school.
Roland Abbot is the charismatic, attractive televangelist from New Life Church with a dark past and an illegitimate child.
Ignoring the cautions of her mother and the confusion of her Ivy League-bound friends, Kennedy enrolls at the conservative Christian Carter University where her sights are set on Roland Abbot—her birth father.
Kennedy’s intentions are to learn more about her father than the Bible. However, roommates who are quick to evangelize to strangers, an RA who seems to be hiding something, and friends in the most unlikely places challenge everything she’s ever held as true in the raging battle of us vs. them.

It's been a while since any of the Bible deals have excited me, but I guess when it rains, it pours.

The Journey: A Bible for the Spiritually Curious is $.99. This is the cheapest that I've ever seen an NIV.
B&N Christianbook Amazon

The NRSV Daily Bible is $1.99. I'm not normally a fan of "daily" Bibles, but the NRSV doesn't go on sale very often.
B&N Christianbook Amazon

The New American Bible: Revised Edition is $1.99. This is another one that doesn't go on sale very often and is an approved Catholic Bible. This is also a good one if you're not Catholic, but want a translation of the Apocrypha in readable English.
B&N Christianbook Amazon

Edit: A few more have been added since this morning. So far, the price has only dropped at B&N and Amazon, but the others may drop overnight.

The Guidebook: The NRSV Student Bible is now on sale for $1.99.
B&N Amazon

The Duck Commander Faith and Family Bible (NKJV) is $5.99.

The Heart of Hebrew History--Marked down from $34.99 to $0.99 (97%!).

This is an older work (1962 (revision)). But the information on this subject, at least at the level that this book covers, does not change much.

This book was, and still is, widely used as a textbook in colleges and seminaries.

This is an opportunity to get an extremely helpful tool for Bible study, at a huge markdown.

The Heart of Hebrew History. By H.I. Hester Rated 4 1/2 stars, from 12 reviews at the present moment. Print list price $34.99; digital list price $34.99; Kindle price now $0.99. B&H Academic, publisher. 352 pages. http://www.amazon.com/Heart-Hebrew-H...hebrew+history.

Book Description
In 1948 the author of this volume was invited by the Education Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention to prepare a textbook on the Old Testament for use by college students. The book is intended primarily for students on the freshman and sophomore level. While some attention has been given to background materials such as geography and antiquities, the chief purpose of the writer has been to present the leading facts in the history of the Hebrew people as given in the Old Testament.

Holman Concise Bible Dictionary. Marked Down 90%, Price Now 99 Cents!

It's concise, if you call 1098 pages concise! ha.

There aren't enough ratings at Amazon (there are none at GoodReads) to get a good read on how good this bible dictionary is. I purchased the ebook and from doing a cursory perusal, it looks great. One reviewer at Amazon commented that navigating through the book on a Kindle was "extremely difficult." I have not had time to load it on my Kindle, but when I checked it onto the Kindle reader, I detected no problems with navigation.

Holman Concise Bible Dictionary. by Holman Bible Editorial Staff. Rated 3 stars, but from only 2 reviews at the present moment. Print list price $14.99; digital list(?) price $9.99; Kindle price now $0.99. B&H Publishing Group, publisher. 1098 pages. http://www.amazon.com/Holman-Concise...ble+dictionary.

Book Description
The Holman Concise Bible Dictionary is the right resource when you just want the basics about a certain subject in Scripture. It easily covers all the traditional Bible dictionary topics-summaries of books in the Bible, major characters, places, animals, plants, etc.-with clarity and convenience. Plus, the volume features more than 2,800 articles on a variety of contemporary topics, including abortion, assisted suicide, child abuse, birth control, credit cards, animal rights, career, and dinosaurs. In all, this book offers more than 4,000 entries.

Free from the small-press specialty publisher via KDP Select @ Amazon:

The Life and Prayers of Saint Therese of Lisieux by Wyatt North Publishing, another one in their series of quickie biographies of faith figures.

Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, also known as Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face, is without a doubt one of the world's most popular Catholic saints. Her relics draw great crowds, and Catholics from the world over make pilgrimage en masse to places associated with her life.

Saint Thérèse's vision of Catholicism was one of daily charity and prayer, where Jesus was close and approachable, not one of ritual and a distant God that required in-betweens.

As a Doctor of the Church, Saint Thérèse's writings have been the topic of discussion for many learned men and women throughout the century that has passed since her death. However, through her heartfelt style of writing and simple message it has also touched a great number of lay Christians, in ways no one could have foreseen during her lifetime.

Bible Basics: What You Believe Matters

Quote:
A straightforward look at fundamental Christian doctrines essential for building a solid foundation of faith. For those unsure about their beliefs or new Christians looking to learn, Bible Basics is a great place to start. Life’s most important question is answered in this bible based book, and our eternal destiny depends upon what we believe. Those who are searching for true peace can find it as we are guided towards our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
