1. Fall of Giants (960 pages)
2. Winter of the World (928 pages)
3. Edge of Eternity (1120 pages)

The third book is due out in September sometime. These are big books.
Edge of Eternity was released today in the US.

If you enjoy Fantasy, I recommend the Kingkiller Chronicle series:

The Name of the Wind - Patrick Rothfuss - 722 pages
The Wise Man's Fear - Patrick Rothfuss - 1120 pages

I've not read the second book, but the first book is highly overrated.

I have been waiting for this event. I'm currently reading Fall of Giants in a book group.

Thanks Angst, I've been trying to involve myself in the genre.

I recently completed The Historian, and was surprised how easy it was to like it. Thanks to BenG who recommended it.

(IMHO) it is overrated.

Anyway, The Ken Follett Century Trilogy is now out and finished. So give it a read because it's a good series.

Thomas Piketty's Capital in the 21st Century is a big fat non-fiction book that is selling pretty well these days. Piketty clearly had Marx's Das Kapital in mind when he was writing, and that is another big fat book. Piketty is a good writer and makes a lot of literary references, especially to 19th c. novels. However, he doesn't mention William Gaddis' JR, which is a big fat satire of the money-making mindset.

I highly recommend The Baroque Cycle by Neal Stephenson. It's a work of fiction but looks at the scientific revolution in England with a bit of alchemy, piracy/thieving and the beginnings of financial "credit". I'm not even a big history fan but I found the trilogy very entertaining.

Quicksilver - 960 pages

The Confusion - 848 pages

The System of the World - 908 pages

I'm very much liking what this book has to offer. It may leapfrog the other books (big and fat ones as you say) vying for my attention. Till now my problems are choice and time. Thanks for the rec.

I can't read the omnibus. I'll go mad checking whether the status bar on my kindle is going from 1% to 2% for a week or thereabouts. I'm going to read the separate books. It may be the fantasy book to end my reticence with the genre. Thank you.
