So far we've had one foot of snow today. I haven't seen any moving cars or trucks on my block.

I can see a Snowmobile delivery service would clean up in our weather this year.

I used to have several stores that I could run out to, to get some of my favorite brand Twinings until Magruder's shut down. Now I can't get Twinings at all. So one cold winter January day I got a great idea, ordered some through Amazon, and got my favrote twinings at a much lower cost + shipping than I could get at Magruder's. Now I have a source for my tea habit. Although next time around I thik that I will compete all of the estores based on price, Ithink I can get a better price than amazon is willing to give me.
You should be able to find a better price. Stores around here stopped carrying my favorite tea (luzianne) in small bags, so I ordered from Amazon the first time. Since then I've found cheaper tea elsewhere. In some cases you can order some high end tea for cheaper because they specialize in tea only. This store had some interesting teas to try http://www.englishteastore.com/ They may even carry twinnings. I didn't check. I'm not sure I'd order the same loose tea from them again, but they do have shipping specials and specials on various kinds of tea now and then.

Fedex/UPS Sunday delivery is almost non-existant these days.
When it was available, it added $20-30 to the domestic 'Next Day Air' rate.
Nope, delivered by the Post Office -- the carrier left his truck and knocked at the door rather than leave it up at the mailbox. Amazon recently signed a private deal with the Postal Service for Sunday delivery. This is the first time I got it, though.

I used to have Amazon Prime since when it was first introduced in Germany.

However, since I have been reading nearly exclusively on my Kindles, the "free one-day-shipping" did not make so much sense to me anymore, since I had free instant delivery of all my books anyway :-)

Best regards,
Andy

I do pretty much all my shopping - except food shopping - at Amazon, so for me, the free next-day delivery with Prime is well worthwhile. I buy a lot of books - typically 1 or 2 a week - for the Egyptology course I'm doing. The overwhelming majority of these are not available as eBooks, so being able to get them the next day is extremely useful for my academic work.

Unlike you Harry, I'd get no value out of a UK prime membership - IIRC it's £50 a year and gives free next day delivery plus 1 book/month Kindle lending and that's it, right?

Thanks. I don't order from them often enough to justify £50 for Prime really, and when I do order I don't mind waiting a few days for things to arrive with the free super saver delivery, though they now do seem to take longer to despatch things on super saver than they used to - I guess trying to push people towards Prime. My only case of "can't-wait-itis" last year was for the PW2 so I paid the extra for next day delivery for that (£7.99 I think it was, thus leaving me with £42 to buy books compared to the cost of Prime) And for me to be interested, they'd need to do one free Kindle book purchase a month instead of lending

Of course - I completely appreciate that we all have different priorities. It takes all sorts to make the world go round, as the saying goes .

I do like prime. I like the free videos, although I can go a long period without using it. I don't get the benefit of prime lending library, as I don't have a kindle.

So i'll change my behaviour. Currently, I have it setup to auto renew my Prime membership. I'll disable auto-renew, and do a little less shopping at Amazon (once Prime expires.) Probably a win for Both me and Amazon.

Like Harry, I order almost all of my non-food purchases from Amazon; I've had Amazon Prime since 2007. I would pay more if they raised the price, although my preference would be that they unbundle some services from Prime so that the price doesn't go up as much - I'm primarily interested in the shipping.

For me, ordering from Amazon is mostly about convenience - I can research what I want online, check Amazon reviews and other prices, and then place my order. For me, the two day shipping is fast enough that I'm usually not tempted to run out and try to buy it in a B&M store. And the whole order-exactly-what-I-want-and-have-it-delivered-to-my-house thing is fantastic; *much better* than going from store to store trying to find what I want or figure out whether what I do find, which is not exactly what I wanted, is an acceptable alternative.

Unbundling might make sense for some, but for me, the free shipping wasn't enough of an incentive. However, free shipping PLUS free video streaming got me on board, once I added the compatible streaming devices. I could certainly survive without either one and I wouldn't pay individually for either perk, but the two things together seem like a bargain.

We don't get the video stuff in the UK, so the free next-day shipping is all there is (other than the 1 book a month lending, which doesn't personally interest me - I like to own books ).

In Canada it is only 2 day shipping for $79.95 and 1/2 the country isn't eligible for that it seems. No movies or lending.

Coupled with the fact that usually prices are higher than the B&M stores and the Canadian online stores, kind of an anti-deal
