Many people seem to forget that before the introduction of Prime in 2005, everything outside major metropolitan areas in America was a wilderness, with only a few tribes of primitive hunter-gatherers, limited to subsistence farming and basic barter.
And before the launch of Amazon.com in 1995, outside the cities was nothing but a primordial ooze, with with single celled animals, passbook savings accounts and dial-up AOL.

It's only natural that over that long evolutionary span of 19 years those populations will have grown entirely dependent on Amazon for a functioning economy, as they have with corn or oil or cable TV, and therefore it would obviously be a fundamental function of any type of government or system of societal philosophy to protect free 2-day shipping as an inalienable human right.

I think that's all Crich70 was trying to say. QED.

So ... I have an order with Amazon that was guaranteed to be delivered today. I didn't get it. I think I'm being discriminated against.

With some it is not whether they can afford to save, they just don't. Not saying they waste their money, but they spend it all and often have to borrow. I have friends who make good money by my standards and live paycheck to paycheck and others (one at least gets only $743 a month) who save a little bit each month on very little.

Read "The Millionaire Next Door". It just might shock you how frugally the wealthy live. Very, very few of the wealthy live the lifestyle portrayed in the media. You can't have your money and spend it too.

I ordered a package with a guaranteed delivery date of today (Monday). It arrived a day early (Sunday). I have no idea why they like me better than you.

The problem is with my local post office, not Amazon. Still, it's really annoying.

Hasn't there been some inclement weather in the US lately? Perhaps that's affecting deliveries?

Maybe they really delivered it on Saturday, You just did not discover that it was on your porch.
Or it was accidentally delivered to a really NICE neighbor, who corrected the error

Fedex/UPS Sunday delivery is almost non-existant these days.
When it was available, it added $20-30 to the domestic 'Next Day Air' rate.

The CUSTOMER requesting Sunday delivery is one thing, the DELIVERY service doing it on their own to manage their workload is another. I've seen that happen several times myself. Especially during the holidays, but not only then.

True enough, but the tracking info shows that the item arrived at the local post office on time. They just didn't bother making the delivery--and the weather was fine yesterday.

My local post office is frequently bad about package deliveries, and complaints go nowhere.

P.S. This was a Prime order, and in my area. as of a few months ago, Amazon Prime is supposed to have Sunday deliveries through the U.S. Postal Service. It wasn't something I requested or paid extra for; it was just the delivery date Amazon gave me. It's the first time in I've been given a Sunday delivery date (I've only had Prime about two months).

I've read that if you don't get your Prime deliveries on time, you can complain to Amazon and they will extend your Prime for another month. Never had to test it. I have Prime under a friend's account and it is very convenient, but I don't care about the Kindle books or videos, so it works out well for me.

ApK, my sister just about busted a gut when I read her your response. She lives in rural America among the other quaint denizens and reminds others that when Amazon began, gas was $1.80 a gallon. It is now between $3 and $4 most of the time. The closest shopping center is 45 miles away (that's one way).

[edited to ad] The post office does Sunday delivery only for rare things such as perishable medical supplies or live animals (like fish or crickets). I think the Sunday Amazon delivery thing was just a Christmas season thing though. I remember being really surprised to get an Amazon box on a Sunday back in early December.

I did e-mail Amazon, explaining that I knew the missing delivery wasn't their fault, but just in hopes that if they passed on the complaint to the postal service it would carry some weight. I was very surprised that they gave me a credit for $10 toward a future purchase for my inconvenience.

Most of the people who live as portrayed by the media only live that way for a few years. After that it's bankruptcy court and a reality TV show. Or jail, an K-47, or exile.

Some zillionaires do live to the cliches (Larry Ellison, Paul Allen) but most of the really rich live the lifestyle of the merely wealthy.

I would imagine that for Tarana's sister lives amazon has become a life saver along with wallmart.com. I am sort of partly in the same boat, even though I live in a suburb of the nation's capital:

I hate coffee, never acquired a taste for the stuff, so I drink a lot of hot tea for the cafine to wake me up in the morning. I used to have several stores that I could run out to, to get some of my favorite brand Twinings until Magruder's shut down. Now I can't get Twinings at all. So one cold winter January day I got a great idea, ordered some through Amazon, and got my favrote twinings at a much lower cost + shipping than I could get at Magruder's. Now I have a source for my tea habit. Although next time around I thik that I will compete all of the estores based on price, Ithink I can get a better price than amazon is willing to give me.
