I have used this JB successfully on two 3.2.1 devices. I have received my fourth K3W from Amazon today (3.2.1 576290015).

First attempt: Wifi On - Failed - U007
Second Attempt: Wifi off + renamed documents - Failed - U007
Third Attempt: Place on drive + reboot - Failed - U003
Fourth Attempt: Wifi off + rename documents + renamed system - Successful!

Note: I did NOT need to de-register. Timing is important as well

menu + down*5 + click + menu + down*2 + click*2

Make sure you restart your device after moving the documents and system folder, this will allow your Kindle to regenerate 'clean' system files and remove evidence of your content. I attempted to update after moving the files in the same run, the Kindle refused to acknowledge the existence of the update file (greyed out). After a fresh restart and file transfer it worked.

Thank you for your time and efforts Yifan Lu.

Hopefully this will help someone struggling (First device took over 20+ tries to get it right, but it works, I do not think certain Kindles will refuse it)

I was also successful on the jailbreak, however can't get the usbNetwork to work...any tutorials/suggestions on how to do that? Do I need to transfer anything to my Kindle 3.2.1 first?

Thanks, I got usbNetwork running perfectly. My Mac shows a new USB network device now. Is it possible to tether Whispern3t 3g to my Mac?

Thanks in advance.

Dear all,

Just joined the forum, so "hello" to everyone.

I "think", I just jailbroke my a week old K3 but how do I know if it's really jailbroken?

I'm actually a bit confused here: I tried so may times to jailbroke my K3 following the "time-line" guide but I never got the "update" link activated. So, just to test, I copied the "update_jailbreak_0.5_k3w_install.bin" file onto my K3 (whilst it's connected), disconnect it and quickly moved to the "Menu > Settings > Menu" page and that time the "Update your Kindle" link was active and I installed the new firmware. In the end, it said: "The update was successful" or something that. did I do it right? Cheers!!

How exactly do you do that? If I run "~usbNetwork" and then try to login this way from the PC:
Code:
# modprobe usbnet
# modprobe cdc_ether
# ifconfig usb0 192.168.2.1
# ssh root@192.168.2.1
it asks for the password. Looks like I'm doing a silly mistake somewhere. Any idea? cheers!!

Just upgrade successfully, Finally!

2) something is making the kindle boot up slow. Do a factory reset and temporary remove all books and deregister.
My goodness! After so many failed tries... (20, 30 times), I thought, why not run the uninstall bin and see what will happen.... It worked!!!

Background of this kindle, it is an upgrade replacement unit from amazon for my old 2nd generation kindle. It is also a refurbished unit. Now I assume someone had run jailbreak and returned it.

Thank you so much for all of your work and help!

yifanlu - Thanks!

Got it right on the 2nd try (Kindle 3.2.1 plugged into Win 7/64-bit PC).

Per above, /system and /documents were renamed *.bak and wireless was turned off.

The 2nd time, the instant I saw drive change from "Removable Disk" to "Kindle" I copied the .bin file.

After "Update Kindle" I deleted the new /documents and renamed /documents.bak to /documents. I didn't know if there was anything altered in /system (it's a new Kindle so there probably wasn't much in there other than basic personalization info) so I copied /system.bak/collections.json to the new /system.

Thanks again.
