Mine worked first time. Try turning off WiFi and renaming the document file to bak temporarily while you move the file.

I did both. Renamed document folder and wifi is turned off.

Thanks for the reply! I did turn off wifi (most of the time ) and I did rename document file to document.bak (not every time, though). I read about rename system folder but I still can't see it even after I change the folder option from Windows Explorer. I tried at least 15 times and failed to update the jailbreak with big "!". My kindle is US 3g/wifi without special offer. It arrived yesterday with 3.2.1 on it. maylin |

Well, yifanlu promised a less forceful update later so it looks like that will be your only option.

Still attempting to Jailbreak
Another person having issues with the 3.2.1 Jailbreak on my non-ad-supported Kindle 3 with 3G. I turned off wireless, removed all the content, and even tried resetting to factory defaults. No luck, yet.
I have been trying to use the Terminal script as well, but my Kindle keeps changing names (it doesn't seem to be at regular intervals). It started as Kindle, then became Kindle 1, Kindle 2, and now Kindle 3. So that means the script is often pointing to a non-existent device and I have to start over. Can anyone tell me why this is happening? Also, being new to Kindle, I am curious about estimates/guesses for when 3.3 might be released? (I'm wondering how long I'm going to have to wait for the easy-to-install Jailbreak; I've tried to find a timeline of past Kindle software releases but haven't been able to find one.) |

My uneducated guess is that there will not be a 3.3, but 4.0 as the new kindle comes out.

Bummer; back to trying the temporary method again (and again, and again, LOL).
Has anyone had success after a ridiculous number of tries? Anecdotal evidence seems to suggest that if it hasn't worked by the ~5th time, it isn't happening, but I hope that's just the frustration talking. ![]() |

1) the kindle is already jailbroken somehow (previous user, another family member, forgot you jailbreaked before, etc) 2) something is making the kindle boot up slow. Do a factory reset and temporary remove all books and deregister. |

Then, I tried to make it even faster, so I clicked the necessary [Menu]+2[down]+[click]+[Menu]+2[down]+[click] even before the display showed the file tree on my kindle, i.e. I could start updating before the system could fully boot, and finally it worked to me. So, don't give up if you try five times with no success, maybe the 10th will work. And it didn't do any harm to my device. |

Well, this is embarrassing.
Fed up that I couldn't get the Jailbreak to install, I tried installing the screen saver hack. And it installed! I believe what happened is the jailbreak worked the first time, but when I attempted to install the screen saver hack, I did that wrong (maybe I dropped the uninstaller instead of the installer? I can't even guess). When the hack didn't install, I assumed I didn't install the jailbreak correctly. So I kept trying to install it. I wrote a reply to you, Yifanlu, where I explained my new device couldn't possibly be already jailbroken since I've been the only owner of it, but the thought just kept nagging at me; thanks for the help! And the jailbreak! Sorry that this is of no help to those still trying, but I did successfully jailbreak my Kindle 3 with 3G running 3.2.1 (non-ad-supported version). |

You could always do the uninstall first.
