If I ever have to ship something overseas, I usually don't use USPS. The problem isn't them - it's the handoff to the other postal service. Did USPS lose it, or did the Indian equivalent?

Should you have to do this again, talk to FedEx or UPS. If they do deliver there, it may be more expensive to ship, but it also far more likely to arrive.

That's part of the problem I have no idea and no one will talk to me unless it was a "registered" etc. package.

Can't you track it on the internet? We usually have a tracking number to check where it was last scanned. It may give you an idea.

Nope, I've been through it all. The only thing I has was a customs number and they won't do anything.

you poor thing. How frustrating. Has it been a very long time?

I once had some lost mail(bank stuff) turn up a several weeks after I lodged a search and they found nothing. Funny thing it was damaged. I guess it got caught in the machinery and fell off the conveyer. Someone must have found it and put it back in the system.

I NEVER argue religion or politics. Never.
However I will discuss world religions at the drop of a hat. I find them fascinating. I'll often even invite the Watchtower folks or the young people from Utah into the house for discussions if they seem rational while at the door!

.....yeah, I'd like to "do unto" someone!!!!
Living abroad I've often shipped things to other parts of the world. Quite often it has taken much longer than the usual 10 days - two weeks that I've been quoted. Don't give up hope yet. If it's less than 6 six weeks you're still in the running.

In fact; I had some Chinese just the other night.

Chinese culture is 5,000 years old...
Where did the Jews eat Sunday night dinner for those first 1,000 years?

It's not pork. It's 'white beef'. And lobster is really 'sea chicken.' Just ask Grandma! Her house was Kosher. She always kept two sets of dishes and never mixed meat and dairy. But Chinese food is different. Just ask her!

It's been three months now. We kept hoping it would show up and then agreed to sort of split the loss -- I took the bigger piece of it.

Three months is long enough to say it's gone... Sorry to hear it. For future mailings, are you familiar with the EMS system? Some countries call it 'Express Mail.' It's just a bit more than the cost of USPS but it gets a tracking number so you can trace it if it goes missing.

For what it's worth, DeBeer's ships all it's regular diamond shipments via regular USPS, unmarked other than addresses for sender and return (the return doesn't say DeBeers.) They claim that they only loose about one package every few years of sending thousands per year, and the postage savings make it cost effective.

Completely off topic - their London office is a couple of minutes walk from where I work - and their helicopter landing on their roof has made many a boring meeting more interesting!

I learned it at the feet of a Jewish Boss who borrowed my freshly received wedding china for his first hosted passover

I had to send a family ring to my son and the jeweler told me that the safest way to go was registered insured USPS. it goes immediately into a locked bag and doesn't do a thing without a signature. that's one of the things I learned working in law, you always track things, and the USPS has a beautiful system of signatures required
