@Wolowizardry-
Special Offers (SO) or not makes no difference for the Jailbreak...only matters with regard to screensavers. The Screensaver hack will NOT work on SO's, so if you want your own screensavers you will need to get the non-SO version (or pay Amazon $20 to remove the special offers later). |

Yep. The official policy here is not to undermine Amazon's business model, e.g. if you got a discounted Kindle by agreeing to the special offers, we won't help you get rid of them.
Any hacks will work exactly the way they should, but screensavers simply will not show up on a currently special-offers device. |

How to check if jailbreak survived?
Hi,
sorry for the stupid question but how can I check if my jailbreak survived upgrade? Seems like my PW2 was upgraded to 5.4.5.1 (2440520001). BTW I am assuming that jailbreak was overwritten because KUAL is not working any more but I would like to double check. (Maybe this is only KUAL which stop working) |

@phoenix_pl: Besides looking at the screen during the reboot after the update, no way besides trying to install something (or checking over SSH).
The KUAL thing is unrelated. Check the FAQ, it's perfectly normal behaviour. Reinstall MKK. (Or update to a snaphsot version of the JB >= 1.11.N). |

Thanks for advice. I reinstalled MKK and everythings goes back to normal.
Shall I update also my jailbreak? I checked and my version is 1.9.N. |

The newer jailbreak includes protection of MKK during updates, so that you will not have to manually re-install it. |

I can't find my kindle device in the current list of Kindle models. My kindle device is Kindle PaperWhite 2, 3G version with 4G bytes of storage size. I bought it in/shipped to Japan. The first four characters of its serial number is "90F2".

Updated packages for your model will show up first in the NiLuJe snapshot thread. @NiLuJe: a PW2-(jp, 2013) and a PW2-(jp, 2014) now? I wonder if Amazon is just picking these model numbers at random. ![]() |

@junderwu: No idea which list you're checking, but this model is in ours, and has been supported for a while.

Hi guys , please excuse my absolute noobness regarding opening Kindle system. I just been reading the thread nad I thought I would ask you guys for help:
I am about to buy the Kindle paperwhite 6" Wifi 2014, but I absolutely need to be able to use my scribd library on it. Scribd just has an app available for kindle fire, or you can use an android app that they have. Would it be possible to open/ root my kindle system so that it accepts the scribd android app ? Would you mind pointing me to the direction on how to do it or if any other thread has been developed on this matter. I thank you guys very much in advance for your precious help. Sincerely, fire |

Short answer: No
The grayscale Kindles **DO NOT** run an Android based system. |

If unknown, what is the filename extension? There are two questions here - How to deal with the details of the subscription service (most of what the scribd application does). What readers support the book format scribd uses. It is possible that they have combined the above two functions in their application - I.E: with a scribd-only book format and/or DRM. I can't make any e-book reader recommendations - I only have Kindles and have never used that subscription service. |

I believe Scribd uses EPUB in much the same way Google Play Books does -- as a base format that is totally irrelevant on account of it using proprietary tech specifically designed for NON-interoperability. Obfuscated app storage, in-house DRM, the works.
![]() You will need to use an Android device. (Or I think they have an iOS app too.) The usual rules apply for choosing one, but we do have a forum "Which one should I buy". ![]() |
