It's not just a Voyage issue, it's an electronic device issue. My Fire shuts down randomly once in a while and my iPod does too.
The charger for my son's $2000 MacBook Pro keeps scrapping out too. We're on the third charger in 3 years...at $75 a piece.

It happens to everything, it's not just a Voyage problem.
I'm beginning to suspect a different problem; static electricity or something. My PW1 never froze in the two years I have it, and neither did my Touch. I can't remember any of my devices freezing in the last year, except for my old Samsung Tablet last week.

That makes sense. It is the fault of the lower resolution on the PW2 with it being only 212 ppi. You get used to it after a while, but as soon as you have a device side by side with higher resolution, the lower resolution one will look blurry. Even if it looked just perfectly fine before.

If you compare the H2O to the Voyage, the difference between those two should be less significant than H2O vs PW2. It is similar to iphones once they sharted being retina - the old phones looked just fine until you seen with your own eyes what you were missing.

Same here. My other kindles never froze at all. And I have owned every kindle since they started making them and they all got tons of use. In the very short time I used the voyage it froze more than a few times. So it makes me wonder if something may possibly be up. A few users on here had issues with their voyage freezing when they were setting it up also.

I thought it was maybe some shadowing from the leds, but maybe not. It does bother me some. Is that normal in the PW2014?

I have about 1/4" to 1/2" +/- of what I call "shadowing" from the LEDs on my PW2s. At some settings it's better and others it's worse - I use (and this is new over my PW1) a 16 in the living room now, whereas before I always had to use a setting of 19 or 20. Because it's at the bottom and I rarely look there while reading, I don't really notice it until I turn my PW sideways on the stand (to keep it from falling on my dog's head when I knock it with my hand). The screen on both PWs is so nice, very similar to the bottom of the KV I first received, that I hardly even see it. I have never read so comfortably. The screens are amazing and I never feel eye fatigue like I did with my KV.

I don't read with the light off, so cannot comment on that other than to say that it makes sense that with the light off the shadowing would be gone.

Same here. None of my other kindles ever froze, while some of the KVs I received froze out of the box.

Same page, same book, same font, both at maximum brightness. Left is my PW2 which I can still return to Amazon as I only got it last week, out of its case to make it closer in size to the Voyage. Right is the Voyage. I took this picture in a room with no lights on with the Cannon camera. I've not played with the picture at all, not even to check it size.

Yes it has a yellow top, I can see that as plain as day, but right now its not that bothersome. I really like the smootheness of the glass screen and the page press sensors, and how much brighter and whiter the screen is (even with the yellow top)
Between both, if you can only keep one, I would keep the Voyage if I were you. Your PW2 is very "cold".

If I put my PW2 and my Voyage side by side in the dark and set the light at max, both are creamy colored, the Voyage more so than the PW2. My Aura HD next to them looks very cold, like your PW2 does in your pic. Now I wanted to spend some time taking pictures, but my Calibre Library screwed up yesterday so right now, I am in the middle of a save and rescue action.

Maybe this weekend if I have had enough sleep by then...

Just curious...

As you are aware that the vast majority of Voyage users are not having problems such as yours, and as you seem quite pleased with having "owned every kindle since they started making them," do you intend to order another when things settle down a bit, or was the trauma of your bad Voyage just to much to bear?

I know what I'd do in your situation, but I am interested to hear your likely intention.

Hello, I have been following this thread with interest. This morning I picked up my third Voyage - the first two I returned due to the uneven screen light / noticable gradient - & I'm pleased to say this one is fine. There is still a very slight difference in the lighting at the top 1/3rd of the screen but it is not distracting at all, the first one I had this was really noticable, the second less so but still distracting. So I think there is a difference in screen quality in terms of even lighting between different units, with some having a much more noticable gradient. So for those asking the question 'will I keep mine even though it's annoying me because they are all like that?' I would say that some screens seem to be much more evenly lit than others & it might be worth sticking with the returns approach until you get one that is okay, cheers, Ervinos :-)

The voyage I had was very blueish in the dark with the light on low. (And I read in the dark every night.) I really hated it and it made my eyes hurt. The voyage I had looked like one big blueish pink bruise in the dark to me.

How does your voyage look in the dark with the light on a lower level? That is when I found the voyage particularly bothersome to my eyes. If it looks good to you in the lighting that you'll be using it in, I'd personally keep the voyage over your PW2. Especially since the voyage has slightly better contrast and sharpness of fonts.

Good luck with your decision and I hope you feel better soon!
I'm keeping the Voyage, the PW2 is packed up ready to go back. I was reading at light level 10 in bed last night with no lights on and I couldn't see the discoloration at all. And at light level 16 in my lounge, with just a side lamp. Again no issues at all.
