You can run calibre from source as described in the manual: https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/develop.html no need to compile it.

If you have already installed 8.2, you may want to look at 8.2.1 (those minor point updates don't trigger an update ready notice).

In any case, is there a setting to return it to an "on the fly" conversion. I'd prefer to have my PC have only epubs (which I edit/maintain) and my device have only kepubs (which I read). Thanks!

Yes it is still the case. You will get a KEPUB only if you convert to KEPUB or if you have set kepub as the most preferred format for books sent to the device in the kobo driver.

Ok, so I should keep the preferred format as epub, and it'll still convert to kepub for the device? I have kepub checked so that would be my problem if so. Thanks!

I have both kepub and epub selected for my KLC, and the epubs are converted automatically when they are sent, without leaving another format in the Calibre library. Calibre will choose an available format from what is preferred, and will only create a local conversion if none are available. If epub is available, it will be used. The conversion to kepub is handled in the device driver, based on the "Use KOBO viewer..." setting. |

Where is it located and what needs to be configured? If you can help, thank you so much.

Dunhill, the easier way for me to find the plugin and configure it without any device connected is through "KoboUtilities plugin". There is an option to configure the driver. I'm sure there are more places but I never remember them. And what need to be configured... I only have marked the option "Utilizar el visor Kobo para libros EPUB", and books are converted on the fly.

In the Collections, cover, & uploads tab of the KoboTouch driver in calibre 8, in the Uploading of books section, Use Kobo viewer for EPUB books needs to be checked.

That was the trick, because I was looking for KoboTouch Extended, KoboTouch, but it's from the KoboUtilities add-on. Thanks Terisa and thanks JSWolf
